Thank You Day

We were recently at a friends’ house, and their three-year-old came running up to me, declaring loudly, “Thank You Day is coming!” He was speaking of the upcoming (today, as of this posting) holiday in the United States of America, Thanksgiving.

This is a great reminder.

We are not merely thankful for what we have in this life. We should be thankful to someone, namely God.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, ESV)

May we be thankful to our God for all the blessings He gives us, praising His name and seeking His will and glory, and praising and thanking Him most for new life in Christ.

VerseD: Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and the rivers will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, and the flame will not burn you.

Isaiah 43:2, CSB

The gospel is overcoming the fear of death and uncertainty, knowing Christ has overcome sin, death, and the forces of this world through His death and resurrection.

VerseD: Matthew 19:26

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26, CSB

The gospel is the impossible happening: a hardened, evil heart being softened and made righteous by grace through faith in the work of Christ.

VerseD: 2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.

2 Timothy 1:7, CSB

The gospel is overcoming fear, hatred, and sin in the power of Christ’s blood and of the Holy Spirit through repentance, faith, grace, and love.

VerseD: Mark 10:14

When Jesus saw it, he was indignant  and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Mark 10:14, CSB

The gospel is for all people, no matter their age or any other factor. Children understand more than often given credit, and the hardest heart can be softened to be like that of a child. Just believe.

VerseD: Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and effective  and sharper than any double-edged sword,  penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12, CSB

The gospel is God changing our hearts from the inside out by the blood of Christ, because He knows us better than we know ourselves from the inside out and reveals that through His Word.

VerseD: Luke 1:37

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Luke 1:37, CSB

The gospel is that Christ can save anyone, the worst of sinners, the strictest legalist religionist, and the person who thinks they can earn their way to heaven. Nothing is impossible with God.

VerseD: John 3:16

For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16, CSB

The gospel is Hod sending His perfect Son to die for the sins of all who will be lived in Him.

VerseD: Isaiah 25:1

Lord, you are my God;  I will exalt you. I will praise your name, for you have accomplished wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.

Isaiah 25:1, CSB

The gospel includes acknowledging and praising the good God of pur salvation.

VerseD: Philippians 4:4

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Philippians 4:4, CSB

The gospel includes celebrating the joy and grace of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, bringing light into every part of life.
