Our God has done so much for us, we should want to give thanks for His love and grace every moment of every day.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
Psalm 28:7, ESV
When we realize that apart from God we can do nothing good, yet He came to save us from the pit of death, we should want to worship Him and spread His fame.
“I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
Jeremiah 17:10, ESV
God knows our actions and our intentions and thoughts. No one is guiltless before Him.
Yet, He offers His grace through Jesus Christ.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:2, ESV
Despite the problems in our world, our God is the place of stability and safety we can turn, showing a hurting and anxious world the peace He offers.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

This world is full of concerns, obligations, and worries, but our God is sovereign and mighty.
Trust in Him and His Word.
“There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.”
1 Samuel 2:2, ESV
God is the only God, the foundation and sustainer of all. He alone is our hope.
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart
Psalm 119:2, ESV
The foundation of truth is God and His revealed Word. How could we not want to seek that Truth and then share it?
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Isaiah 6:8, ESV
The Word should change us. The call of the Lord should push us.
May we proclaim the change that comes through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit.
I have started a small group series on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). I am sharing my notes in case anyone else wants to use them with their group. [Reminder that these are only notes!]
Matthew 5:1-2:
Jesus wants to teach the crowds: Who are they? Jewish disciples: People who understand the
Scriptures (at least to a point). Notice from 7:28 the crowds still came along, but this teaching is for His disciples.
What does “blessed” mean?
Based on the first twelve verses, blessed means realizing our own wretchedness and need for a Savior. In other words, it is becoming/being a Christian.
What was discussed last time?
• Don’t worry.
• Trust God.
Matthew 7:1:
Cut and dry, right? Don’t judge.
Matthew 7:2-4:
DISCUSS!
Matthew 7:5-6:
Not hypocrisy, but helping from experience.
We are to judge with God’s standard (The Bible – literally “canon” = “standard” or “ruler”): we start with ourselves, then we help the world. (Matthew 28:18-20)
