VerseD: Luke 16:10

Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.

Luke 16:10, CSB

Humble, sacrificial service out of love for God and others is the expectation for those who carry the name of Jesus. Thinking we have it all figured out or are the only ones who can do things, or even those who don’t try, is wrong. We do all things for and through Christ.

VerseD: Philippians 2:5

Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus

Philippians 2:5, CSB

Humble, sacrificial service out of love for God and others is the expectation for those who carry the name of Jesus.

Ministry Travels lesson: Forced to live in Prison Restroom but privileged to preach the Gospel

In the West, we are not as aware of what persecution against Christians is like. Pastors get comfortable, congregants are often apathetic (largely due to ignorance), and and non-regular attenders and non-Christians rarely care enough about to if they know of it to check. Many in our culture may even come across disagreement or inconvenience and think faith is not worth it.

Extreme persecution still happens. When people are so desperate for Christ that they willingly face violence and hatred but we prefer to stay comfortable, it shows the disparity as well as why Jesus said it is so hard for the wealthy to enter the Kingdom (Matthew 19:16-29; Mark 10:17-30; Luke 18:18-30). Even most of our poor and homeless are better off than half the world.

Let us pray for Jimmy’s work and that the pastors and others he teaches remain faithful and strong in the Lord.

VerseD: Acts 20:35

“In every way I’ve shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by laboring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Acts 20:35, CSB

It is not what we do that makes us righteous before God, but it’s faith in Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection that brings us righteousness. We then should want to share that righteousness with others to bring them to faith, and any other ways we can give like our Lord has to us should be our desire.

VerseD: Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16, CSB

It is not what we do that gets us into heaven but Christ’s righteousness in us. That righteousness should overflow into doing good things and leading others to Christ.

VerseD: Galatians 6:9

Let us not get tired of doing good,  for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.

Galatians 6:9, CSB

God moves in His own time, so may we remember His patience as we struggle through this life, living as Christ did and loving others with the Word of God and acts of kindness while we await Christ’s return.

VerseD: Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition  or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.

Philippians 2:3, CSB

We walk in the footsteps of Christ, thinking of others’ needs more than our own, liv8ng sacrificially more than for ourselves, bringing glory to God rather than ourselves.

VerseD: James 4:17

So it is sin to know the good and yet not do it.

James 4:17, CSB

We walk in the footsteps of Christ, and this looks like doing good in loving obedience to God, helping others and doing what is right even when no one is looking.

VerseD: John 8:12

Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12, CSB

We walk in the footsteps of Christ, and walking in obedience to God reveals our sins as well as His righteousness and love for others flowing through us.

VerseD: Matthew 18:4

“Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child—this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:4, CSB

We walk in the footsteps of Christ, the one who welcomed and loved children and calls us to the same humble curiosity as children. Likewise, we should encourage curiosity and care for all children.
