Responses to Christmas 6-Day Devotional (Again)

14 years ago, I wrote a series of Christmas devotional thoughts. For my church for 2023, I edited those and made a short, 6-day devotional booklet. I recently saw the need for a couple of edits, so I did that.

I am once again putting it here for your downloading pleasure.

It is a simple, fun yet still serious look at how some people responded to Christ’s birth 2000 years ago with some added application for today.

I pray you enjoy and are blessed by it.

Merry Christmas!

VerseD: Proverbs 11:25

A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water.

Proverbs 11:25, CSB

We find joy, strength, and confidence in giving sacrificially knowing that Christ first did this for us.

VerseD: Mark 2:18

When Jesus heard this, he told them, “It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Mark 2:17, CSB

We find joy, strength, and confidence knowing Christ came to save us, and His death and resurrection have paid for our healing and redemption.

VerseD: Matthew 24:42

Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.

Matthew 24:42, CSB

We find joy, strength, and confidence in knowing that our risen Lord is coming back to us one day, and this keeps us aware of our walk with Him and the need to reach this world.

VerseD: Isaiah 12:2

Indeed, God is my salvation; I will trust him and not be afraid, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.”

Isaiah 12:2, CSB

We find joy, strength, and confidence for each day knowing that God has saved us and empowers us.

VerseD: John 8:32

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:32, CSB

God deserves our thanks, especially for coming Himself to free us from sin, shame, and separation from Him. We have true freedom when we follow Christ.

VerseD: John 6:34

“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.”

John 6:35, CSB

God deserves our thanks, especially for coming down from heaven to us and offering Himself for our redemption.

VerseD: John 1:14

The Word became flesh and dwelt  among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14, CSB

God deserves our thanks, especially for coming to be one of us and reveal Himself and His grace to us, though we are sinful and rebellious.

Thank You Day

We were recently at a friends’ house, and their three-year-old came running up to me, declaring loudly, “Thank You Day is coming!” He was speaking of the upcoming (today, as of this posting) holiday in the United States of America, Thanksgiving.

This is a great reminder.

We are not merely thankful for what we have in this life. We should be thankful to someone, namely God.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, ESV)

May we be thankful to our God for all the blessings He gives us, praising His name and seeking His will and glory, and praising and thanking Him most for new life in Christ.

VerseD: Luke 6:38

“Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure — pressed down, shaken together, and running over — will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Luke 6:38, CSB

God deserves our thanks, especially for giving us forgiveness and grace through Chriat and by the Holy Spirit. Let us show our gratitude by giving His grace and forgiveness to others.
