The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecclesiastes 12:13, ESV
We want to do things on our own, but the things of life are meaningless apart from God. When we submit to the Holy Spirit to helps act and be more Christ-like, we find our true purpose and meaning in life.
I hear from folks in our congregation regularly how glad they are they can hear the full council of God from our pulpit. We follow the approach of alternating from a book or series of books from the Old Testament and the New Testament. We preached through Ruth, and are currently in Galatians.
I know I thank God for this little congregation and the leadership. I have been in enough churches that preach primarily topical messages (not necessarily bad in and of themselves, but they must be biblically sound and based!) and/or downloaded sermons from others. (And this was not in Southern Baptist Churches, like was heard of from Ed Litton as and before becoming the SBC president. Aht least he typically used fairly decent material. I have heard sermons pulled from known false teachers but that “sounded so good!”)

For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Express praise if your Church teach from the Old Testament. I think most churches on Sunday would be teaching on the New Testament. That’s good. But we must not forget that the Old Testament is also the Word of God. And the Old Testament is often […]
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!
Psalm 143:10, ESV
We naturally want to do our own thing our own way. We must submit ourselves to the will of God, the Holy Spirit guiding us in all truth and transforming us into the image of Christ.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
Luke 6:35, ESV
God has shown His kindness and goodness to all of us (everyone) who has sinned (rebelled and disobeyed) against Him.
We remember that vengeance is the Lord’s against those who wrong us, and, just as we can never earn grace nor our own salvation but must accept His gift, we give of ourselves to help others.
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Proverbs 11:24, ESV
God blesses us, and we bless others with those blessings. Most importantly, God gives us the blessing of grace and forgiveness, and if we hold onto for ourselves we stagnate. If we pass on that blessing, we find more than we can fathom.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Matthew 5:9, ESV
God wants us to live at peace with others as mich as we can, but most importantly He desires we bring others to the peace with God found only in Christ.
You wake in the park after a night of self destructive binging with a map. Your money is gone, your friends are gone, and you smell terrible. You ran away from home with half of your Father’s money and a GIGANTIC ego trip. Now, a few weeks later, you’re face down in goose poop, and you’re cold and hungry. But you wake up with a map.
On the map is a hand written note that says “I’m here. When you wake up, come to me and I’ll drive you home- love dad.” An arrow points to an X a few miles away, and the address is written out in bold letters. You can hardly believe your eyes. Your Father has given you a map to where he is! And he is waiting to take you home! You…
For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Romans 15:4, ESV
God knows all things from beginning to end and directed history, guiding His prophets and apostles to point us to His truth, reminding us of His promises and faithfulness.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Galatians 5:13, ESV
The only One truly free is God, but through His love He sacrificed His Son to offer us freedom. By His Holy Spirit we are empowered to take the news of this freedom to others.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
John 6:35, ESV
God alone is able to take care of all of our needs, most importantly our need for redemption, forgiveness, and eternal life. All we need do is trust in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
Do we truly love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strengths? Maybe I can help with the mind part, at least! This is Daniel M. Klem, apparent poet, reluctant yet passionate Disciple (Peter?), and foolish man attempting to understand theology!
