VerseD: James 1:19

My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger

James 1:19, CSB

God is in control and cares for us, so we are empowered to be like Him with others and even ourselves: more patient, more willing to listen, desiring to love before we react.

VerseD: James 1:19

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry

James 1:19, NIV‬

We are created in God’s image, so let us follow Christ’s example of listening, asking questions, and only then offering advice or insight, honoring the image of God in each of us.

VerseD: 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬, ‭CSB‬

Jesus has called us to salvation, and He has called us to share this salvation with others. Sometimes, we’re ready for the end to come, but He is waiting until we have carried His gospel to everyone.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger

James‬ ‭1:19‬, ‭ESV‬

In such a divided world, let us follow the example of God: listen well, and respond as necessary in wisdom. We don’t need to answer everything, just be faithful to our gracious Lord.

VerseD: James 1:19

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger

James 1:19, ESV

We like to know we’re right, so it can be hard to hear out other people. But the God who hears our every prayer empowers us to want to hear the other side, to listen to our fellow image-bearers, even when we know they’re wrong, to show the grace of Christ.

VerseD: 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

2 Peter 3:9, ESV

We have seen that God keeps His promises. While we yearn for others to come to Christ, we can rest in the knowledge that He waited long enough for us to know Him.

VerseD: James 1:19

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger
James 1:19, ESV

We must remember to stay calm and listen to others, even if we disagree. Just as God has been patient with us, we should be patient with our fellow sinful humans, remembering they are made in God’s image and may not be aware of what they are doing.

VerseD: 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9, ESV

We only have this one life to choose Christ. God wants a populated eternity, not empty. He gives us this one time to turn to Him, so be grateful He has waited for you.

VerseD: James 1:19

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;
James 1:19, NASB

As some say, “Listen twice, speak once.” Put another way, be patient. Maybe walk a mile in their shoes. As Jesus did, foregoing anger against those who revile Him to offer forgiveness.

VerseD: 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9, NASB

Jesus will return, on His timetable. It is okay to long for His return, but remember that He is waiting for the full number of those who believe.
