(Still) Funny, eh?

I first shared way back on September 27, 2012. I remember that I got the content off of Facebook, but, as we all know, Facebook can hold onto a screen you are tired of seeing but change in a second from what you wanted to keep looking at.

I can not remember where I found this, but I had to share it:

FUNNY ISN’T IT?

  • Funny how a $10.00 bill looks so big when you take it to church, but so small when you take it to the mall.
  • Funny how big an hour serving God looks and how small 60 minutes are when spent playing golf, fishing or shopping.
  • Funny how long a couple of hours spent at church, but how short they are when watching a movie.
  • Funny how we get thrilled when a football game goes into overtime, but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time.
  • Funny how laborious it is to read a chapter in the Bible and how easy it is to read 200-300 pages of a best-selling novel.
  • Funny how we believe what newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.
  • Funny how people scramble to get a front seat at any game, but scramble to get a back seat at church service.
  • Funny how we cannot fit a gospel meeting into our schedule with yearly planner but we can schedule for other events at a moment’s notice.
  • Funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks to fit a church event into our schedule, but can adjust it for a social event at the last minute.
  • Funny how much difficulty some have learning a simple gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is for the same people to understand and explain gossip about someone else.
  • Funny how we can’t think of anything to say when we pray, and don’t have any difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend.
  • Funny how we are so quick to take direction from a total stranger when we are lost, but are hesitant to take God’s direction to be found.
  • Funny how people are so consumed with what others think about them rather than what God thinks about them.
  • Funny how so many churchgoers sing “Standing on the Promises” but all they do is sit on the premises.
  • Funny how people think that they can get more accomplished in a lifetime without God than in an hour with Him.
  • Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven, provided they don’t have to believe, or to think, or to say, or to do anything.

Funny how we all need to read this.

VerseD: Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10, ESV

Just as God created a good world and loves His Creation, we were created to love this world and draw it back to Him out of the sin and rebellion we brought in, to be like the Son through His power.

VerseD: Ephesians 6:11

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Ephesians 6:11, ESV

The Deceiver wants us to fail, turn from God, and lead others astray.

But God is our defender, equipping us with all we need through His Word, Holy Spirit, and each other as the saints of God.

VerseD: Romans 8:39

nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:39, ESV

God’s love is unconditional. Only those who put their faith in Christ are saved, but He loves each one of His creations.

VerseD: Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12, ESV

God’s Word reveals our every and deepest sins and intentions, but it also reveals God’s endless love and grace for those who call on Christ’s name.

VerseD: Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!
Psalm 143:10, ESV

The Holy Spirit regenerates our hearts and minds, and purifies our souls, that we may be saved from our sin and become more like the Son.

VerseD: Matthew 19:26

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26, ESV

It is the power of God that saves us, by grace through faith. Nothing we can do, have, or give can get us closer to God. It is His gift.

VerseD: Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19, ESV

In Christ, we all have access to the Father through the Holy Spirit, who flows through us into the wilderness of this fallen, sinful world with Christ’s refreshing righteousness.

VerseD: Philippians 1:6

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6, ESV

God has saved us, and we partner with Him to work out our salvation, consciously seeing him work in us to make us like Christ.

VerseD: Psalm 2:11

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psalm 2:11, ESV

We must remember that our God is holy and just, that He does not abide sin.

Yes, He has saved us through Christ, but we also work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12) and examine and test yourself to see if you are in the faith (2 Cor. 13:5).

Then we can rejoice.
