VerseD: James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16, ESV

Sometimes we need to see or hear someone responding to our confession.
Sometimes we need to know we are being held accountable.
All the time we need to obey God’s commands.
Then we heal.

VerseD: John 13:14

If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
John 13:14, ESV

Love your neighbor, especially your brothers and sisters in Christ, by serving them, as Christ has done.

VerseD: James 1:12

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12, ESV

God grants us wisdom and strength to endure persecution, problems, and pains. All we have to do is ask, the Holy Spirit empowers, and we bring glory to God with the hope of eternity helping us even more.

VerseD: Philippians 2:3

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Philippians 2:3 ESV

Just as Christ did not rely on His divinity while on earth, but denied Himself to the point of dying to redeem us, we should love others enough to take care of their needs before our own.

VerseD: 1 John 3:18

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
1 John 3:18, ESV

Some may say “share the Gospel, and if necessary use words.”

That is not the point here. Rather, it is better said “put your money where your mouth is.”

Do not merely teach it: Do it.

VerseD: Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10, ESV

Just as God created a good world and loves His Creation, we were created to love this world and draw it back to Him out of the sin and rebellion we brought in, to be like the Son through His power.

VerseD: Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19, ESV

In Christ, we all have access to the Father through the Holy Spirit, who flows through us into the wilderness of this fallen, sinful world with Christ’s refreshing righteousness.

VerseD: 1 Corinthians 13:1

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 13:1 ESV

Everything we do and say should glorify God and draw others to Him. If what we say and do only scares people away and/or distracts from God, we may not be acting in love.

VerseD: Galatians 5:14

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:14, ESV

Loving others includes helping in times of need; sacrificing time, money, energy, and comfort; leading from sin to repentance and Christ; and merely being present and attentive.

A Faith Old Enough to Count in Decades

Many years on this blog I mark a very important date in my own life: January 9. And not just because it is my wonderful mother-in-law’s birthday.

Two of my more favorite passages from the Bible are these:

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
James 4:7‭-‬8, ESV

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12, ESV

What wisdom do we gain by considering our lives and drawing near to God?

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:3, ESV

So, every January 9, I celebrate my Re-Birthday, the day I was born again by faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

And on January 9, 2020, (specifically, at 6:47 pm CST), I am celebrating 20 years as a Christian.

And I think people should celebrate their salvation much more than we do, to show the world the joy of the world to bring others to glorify the Lord.

Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord, exulting in his salvation.
Psalm 35:9, ESV

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord!”

Psalms 40:16 ESV

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
Jude 1:3, ESV

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16, ESV

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:14‭, ‬17, ESV
