VerseD: Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

We want to handle things in this life on our own, but when we let the Holy Spirit guide our prayers and lead us to trust that God is in control – even to correct us in our sin – we find the peace of His power and guidance.

VerseD: Ephesians 6:12

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

We do wrestle against our own fleshly desires, but our war is not against each other. We rely on the Holy Spirit to change us, change others, and fight against spiritual attacks in the name of Jesus.

VerseD: Philippians 2:13

for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

We naturally want to rebel against God, but His Holy Spirit works in us to transform us into Christ’s likeness to do His will. H takes great pleasure in seeing us obey, not merely because He has moved our will to His but because we want to out of love as we see the good changes happening within.

VerseD: 1 Peter 3:15

but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect

We like to know we’re right, but even if we are right there is a right and wrong way to express truth.

We must rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us in all truth, to study the truth of God’s Word, and to share the truth with grace, compassion, gentleness, and respect to the glory of God.

VerseD: Matthew 6:7-8

“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

God knows what we need, so we do not need to try to please Him with many words or flowery speech. He lives in us by the Holy Spirit, so He helps us to ask.

VerseD: Psalm 147:11

but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.

We please God by obeying His commands and loving others, and we feel His joy by the Holy Spirit – God in us.

VerseD: 1 Corinthians 3:16

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?

God guides us in all of life. We do not need to ask the Holy Spirit into our lives over and over. He is in us at all times.

VerseD: Ecclesiastes 12:13

The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

We want to do things on our own, but the things of life are meaningless apart from God. When we submit to the Holy Spirit to helps act and be more Christ-like, we find our true purpose and meaning in life.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!

We naturally want to do our own thing our own way. We must submit ourselves to the will of God, the Holy Spirit guiding us in all truth and transforming us into the image of Christ.

VerseD: Galatians 5:13

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:13, ESV

The only One truly free is God, but through His love He sacrificed His Son to offer us freedom. By His Holy Spirit we are empowered to take the news of this freedom to others.
