VerseD: Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22‭-‬23 ESV

Our sin keeps us from doing all of these perfectly, but the blood of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit give us the power to live in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

VerseD: 1 John 2:15-16

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
1 John 2:15‭-‬16 ESV

Love the people of ther world through word and action.

Reject the sinful desires of the world (things, wealth, sex, violence, death), instead pursuing God and His righteousness.

VerseD: Jeremiah 17:10

“I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
Jeremiah 17:10, ESV

God knows that everything we do is tainted by sin. So we are under judgment, unless we are found washed by the blood of Christ.

VerseD: Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 11:6, ESV

You cannot be saved without believing God exists, the Son came bodily and without sin to die for our sin, rose again to life, and will return to earth to spend eternity with His faithful servants.

Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 7 (part 2)

There may have been just a touch of eisegesis with the addition of the thoughts about the Philadelphia Eagles in this review, but in the grand scheme of things it is more forgivable than the eisegesis being critiqued from Dr. Ross. There are indeed inconsistencies in Dr. Ross’s logic and biblical interpretation here.

Anchored in Scripture

Either Dr. Ross was verbose in chapter 7, or he wrote quite a bit that needs reviewing and correcting…maybe a little bit of both

Having viewed many videos of Dr. Ross and even interacting with him online, he ties his old earthism to a unique understanding of Jeremiah 33 and the consequences of immutable physical laws. He discusses this on pg 70 after he discusses the perceived problems of the order of creation. Dr. Ross says that it would have ruined all of God’s creation had (as Genesis 1 reveals) the Creator made Earth first and then on day 4 created the sun/moon & planets. He brushes aside the fact that the Creator of the universe would actually have had no problem with Dr. Ross’s proposed physics conundrum

As a way around these enormous complications, some young-earth creationist leaders suggest…

VerseD: Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
Psalm 37:5, ESV

Do not merely pray for God to bless your plans. Seek His will, to walk in His wisdom, and your plans will be His plans and will succeed by His standard.

This Sunday at Church: Text someone you were glad to see them at Church

Text, call, drop by for a visit, or even another suggestion from “This Sunday at Church” and go out for lunch! No matter what, letting people know you are thankful for them is always good.
Like SlimJim here, being one of the pastors means I am sometimes too busy or flocked by congregants to get everyone. (Sometimes, I am playing with my youth and their siblings. 😎)
And remember, non-chirch staff folk, you can do this!

VerseD: Habakkuk 3:17-18

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord ; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
Habakkuk 3:17‭-‬18, ESV

Though everything may go wrong, though this world is often horrible, we take joy in knowing our God has saved us for His glory and will one day take us to be with Him forever!

Gotta Say It

Have you ever been in a room full of people… maybe even a few… and they were talking about something… something you’re passionate about… and they were either arrogantly boasting like they knew what they were talking about,  or they were talking like there were no answers to the subject at hand… or, even worse, they were completely off their rocker with their conclusions?

And, if you’ve ever been in a room like that, have you ever gotten fed up to the point where you couldn’t take it anymore, stood up in your chair, and belted out, “OK, I gotta say something!”?

Well, that’s what I’m doing right now…

I’ve gotta say something.

Good and Bad

Today is Valentine’s Day (happy Valentine’s Day to you). It’s a day that, for me, always comes with a mixed bag of emotions and thoughts. For one, I’m glad we have…

Love Is Love?

Anthony Baker's avatarThe Recovering Legalist

The following, posted in March of last year, holds profound meaning for a day like today.

Especially today.

Not long ago I was riding with my youngest daughter through the Nashville, TN area. We were visiting a couple of colleges that she is thinking of attending, one of them being MTSU.

Since I was the one riding, and since I wasn’t too afraid that Haley would get us killed, I felt more comfortable looking at the sights. One of the sights I saw was a little sticker placed on the back window of a vehicle in the lane next to us.

The first thing I did when I saw it was say out loud what I was thinking: “Love is love? What kind of definition is that?”

And that’s really the point of this little post (rant) of mine: What does it mean when you say “Love Is Love”?

Let’s…
