This Sunday at Church: Ask others what they read during the week

As a local leader, it is actually in my job description to do this. However, as a Christian, each of us is called to encourage each other in truth, and the best way is to make sure we are each reading our Bibles!

Within this series I will have a mini-series on reading.  This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Ask others what they read during the week.

VerseD: Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12, ESV

God’s Word reveals our every and deepest sins and intentions, but it also reveals God’s endless love and grace for those who call on Christ’s name.

VerseD: Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!
Psalm 143:10, ESV

The Holy Spirit regenerates our hearts and minds, and purifies our souls, that we may be saved from our sin and become more like the Son.

VerseD: Matthew 19:26

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26, ESV

It is the power of God that saves us, by grace through faith. Nothing we can do, have, or give can get us closer to God. It is His gift.

VerseD: Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19, ESV

In Christ, we all have access to the Father through the Holy Spirit, who flows through us into the wilderness of this fallen, sinful world with Christ’s refreshing righteousness.

VerseD: Philippians 1:6

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6, ESV

God has saved us, and we partner with Him to work out our salvation, consciously seeing him work in us to make us like Christ.

VerseD: Psalm 2:11

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Psalm 2:11, ESV

We must remember that our God is holy and just, that He does not abide sin.

Yes, He has saved us through Christ, but we also work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12) and examine and test yourself to see if you are in the faith (2 Cor. 13:5).

Then we can rejoice.

Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 6

Words matter. Context matters. Truth matters.
Thus is a longer one, but it deals with some good points that need addressing.

Toward Better Interpretations

As Christians, we should all be like the Berians in Acts 17 – examining the scriptures everyday to make sure that the words spoken are true. Dr. Ross has written words in a book, so we will examine the scriptures to see if what he has said is true. The following is a picture from p53

Ch6I agree with the bullet point list that Dr. Ross has included. This is a good start, and a point of agreement between biblical creationists and old earth advocates.

On the same page, Dr. Ross writes

Second, the Bible also declares that the record of nature is a reliable and understandable means for God to speak to people

He goes on to list Psalm 19:1-4 and Romans 1:18-20 as confirmation of this statement. But what does he mean by “record of nature”?

VerseD: 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9, ESV

We long for Christ to return and restore Creation, but He is patient with this rebellious world, waiting for all who will call on His name in repentance and faith.

May this encourage us to share the Gospel.
