VerseD: James 1:12

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12, ESV

God grants us wisdom and strength to endure persecution, problems, and pains. All we have to do is ask, the Holy Spirit empowers, and we bring glory to God with the hope of eternity helping us even more.

VerseD: Psalm 27:4

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
Psalm 27:4, ESV

To seek the face and presence of the Lord is to seek the truth of Christ.
To seek Christ is to change your life, your thinking, and your actions by the help of the Holy Spirit.

VerseD: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
2 Corinthians 1:3‭-‬4, ESV

You may suffer and face hard times, but know it is ordained by God. He is there comforting you so that you can then be a comfort to others for love and His glory.

VerseD: 1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13, ESV

Temptations come. They are not the sin. Giving in is the sin.
Ask God for help, because He wants to help.

Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 11

I did not realize I still taught a Darwinian approach to a young Earth. Thanks, Dr. Ross, for helping me know this … wait … I don’t.

Young-Earth Darwinism

Is there a link between youth-earth creationists and evolutionists? Are they “sister” views because they abide on opposite ends of radical extremes…like yin/yang? One might get that impression from the opening of Chapter 11

Countless people have been influenced by the beliefs of youth-earth creationists and their evolutionist opponents, persuaded to accept a long creation timescale is tantamount to accepting that amoebas turned into monkeys that turned into humans…The topic of evolution rouses unmitigated, unrelenting animosity between naturalists and supernaturalists. Unfortunately, both sides have assumed that the origin- and history-of-life timescale constitutes the crucial divide. As astronomical advances proved the universe to be some 10 to 15 billion years old, a majority if both scientists and Christians mistakenly assumed that billions of years allowed ample time for a naturalistic account of life.

From the title of the chapter and the opening paragraph, it sounds like Dr. Ross is…

VerseD: Psalm 119:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Psalm 139:23‭-‬24, ESV

An honest person knows they are a sinner in need of grace. God knows this better than we do.
If we merely ask in faith, He will guide us in all righteousness through Jesus Christ.

VerseD: Psalm 119:2

Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart
Psalm 119:2, ESV

Our testimony is not merely what God saved us from. It what He has done and how He saved us, as revealed in every page of Scripture.
And that testimony should encourage us all the more to seek Him and draw near anew each day.

This Sunday at Church: Recommend a book to someone

Our elder team is actually compiling a list of helpful books and other resources for us to recommend to our little flock of believers. I am pretty sure this falls under all of those admonitions in Scripture to encourage one another!

VerseD: Isaiah 55:11

so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11, ESV

God knows what He is doing. We do not save people. He does.
We preach and teach the Word, and God draws them near and changes hearts and minds.

VerseD: Psalm 42:2

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Psalm 42:2, ESV

What is your greatest desire?
If it is not God, seek Him first.
If it is God, seek Him all the harder!
And share His love, grace, and truth with others.
