VerseD: 1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:7, ESV

We walk in the light of Christ: the wisdom, grace, faithfulness, and love of God. We find unity and peace in our Creator and Savior.

Through the Narrow: Salvation Party – By Gina Cook

I remember “complaining” about the “Sinners Prayer” at a church several years ago. Most at that time told me it was biblical and the best way to find out who was a Christian. Thankfully, my pastor at the time understood what I meant.
This article is a good summation of my concerns then and now.

Years ago I was invited to attend a “salvation party” for a young lady who had just made a profession of faith in Christ. I’ll call her “Anne”.  It was the first time I had heard of such a party.  Out of profound curiosity and my heart for Anne, I went.  We gathered at a local restaurant, with cake and gifts in tow.

I noticed the people most excited were the ones throwing the party, the ones who had witnessed to her.  Anne sat appearing unsure and distant.

One could think she was just an introvert who didn’t like the fuss of a party, or that it was a bit too silly for her taste- I would have agreed with her.  Perhaps she was thinking what I was thinking….is she…. saved?  I silently prayed for her and tossed around in my head the question, “how did anyone really know…

VerseD: James 1:2-3

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
James 1:2‭-‬3, ESV

Life is hard. But it is easier knowing that God uses the hard things of life to build us up in Christ.

VerseD: Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17, ESV

It is God who saves, who quiets the confusion and hurts we have with His amazing love.
And He celebrates our salvation with all the angels of heaven!

The Church during the days of Corona Virus: Pray people don’t get sick with the virus at Church

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord (James 5:13‭-‬14, ESV) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, ESV)
Anxiety over illness can bean illness in itself. Let us pray for the health of the faithful.

VerseD: Philippians 4:9

What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:9, ESV

We should be growing more in Christ, to be more like Christ.
We should be showing others how to grow in Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 22

Dr. Ross tries to equate circumcision and Creation science as matters that church councils have dealt with, thus meaning the Creation debate is a matter of salvation. I could agree, seeing as some polls have shown that many left the faith over the matter of evolution versus a literal 6-day Creation. That implies a salvation issue, as evolutionary teachings led people astray.
However, I do not automatically assume Christians who believe in evolution are necessarily apostate or false believers, so this could very well be a false equivocation by Dr. Ross.

Councils Attempt to Bring Calm

Throughout Christian history, there have been ideas and theories which the church has to address as unorthodox. Dr. Ross addresses a few of them in the first few pages of chapter 22.

Circumcision. The first century church had to deal with the sign of the old covenant with regards to the gentile Christians. Should gentile Christians be forced to observe the sign of the old covenant? To help answer this question, the Council at Jerusalem convened to make sure there was a resolution that honored the Lord. Later Paul addresses this in his epistles to the churches. The conclusion – “Therefore, the promise comes by faith so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring – not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham.”

VerseD: Galatians 5:25

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 5:25, ESV

By the Holy Spirit we promote the gospel of peace to our fallen world and amongst each other in all love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

VerseD: 1 Peter 3:12

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Peter 3:12, ESV

We can have peace knowing that God hears our prayers, and they will be mixed with incense and God’s wrath against the evil doers at the end. (Revelation 5:8, 8:3-5)

VerseD: Matthew 6:34

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:34, ESV

Tomorrow’s problems? Too far away. Deal with today’s problems.
Christ’s return? Completely out of your control. Let Him handle it.
Have peace knowing God is in control.
