Resolving Resolutions

My last entry of the year at Proverbial Thought! May the Lord bless you and give you a happy New Year!

Daniel

While going through and organizing things on the site to make it easier for all to find thoughts, Anthony noticed we may have missed a verse!

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. -Proverbs 10:8, KJV

If you have been reading our site for any extended amount of time, you know that I greatly enjoy digging into the deeper truths and how Christ can be found in each verse.

Today, however, I will not be focusing on how the wise find Christ in the Bible while others claim other wisdom or how foolish this idea is. (There it is!)

Instead, this is going out on New Year’s Eve, and this verse is applicable today.

How many of us say each year “I am resolving to do this or that thing”? How many of us, year after year of promises, find ourselves failing mere weeks…

VerseD: 1 John 4:15

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
1 John 4:15, ESV

If confess and believe that Jesus is the Son of God, God incarnate – God in the flesh, fully God and fully man – and that He lived a perfect life to die as our atonement on the cross and then rise back to life …

… you are saved. God dwells in you through the Holy Spirit to the glory of the Father.

VerseD: Luke 6:35

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
Luke 6:35, ESV

Life is not about “me”. Life is about “them” to the glory of God.

The early Christians were known for their sacrifices for others.

VerseD: 1 John 2:6

whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
1 John 2:6, ESV

How did Jesus walk?

He was a servant, was a teacher and defender of God’s Word, and gave sacrificially to the point of death, and all through the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of the Father.

How are we to live?

The same way.

VerseD: Colossians 1:16

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
Colossians 1:16, ESV

Material, spiritual, physical, metaphysical, galactic, microscopic and below and in between and beyond – everything was made through and for Christ.

Including us.

Our purpose in life is to glorify the Creator.

VerseD: Matthew 4:4

But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”
Matthew 4:4, ESV

God’s Word is beneficial for every area of life, most importantly for growing in holiness unto salvation.

VerseD: Zechariah 8:3

This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.”
Zechariah 8:3, NIV

The Lord has come, through the incarnation of Christ, and He shall return once more to finally completely usher in His eternal Kingdom.

Merry Christmas! He Is Coming!

Daniel M. Klem's avatarProverbial Thought

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What [is] his name, and what [is] his son’s name, if thou canst tell?
Proverbs 30:4

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:9-11

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as…

VerseD: Luke 2:13-14

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Luke 2:13‭-‬14, ESV

Some teach angelic beings do not sing, or at least not anymore, since The Fall.

Is it too much to think they may have at the birth of the Son of God?

Regardless, they worship Jesus. May we join with them!

Happy Decemberween!

I would have worded some things differently, but … yeah.
Merry Tuesday. And Christmas.

My goal today is not to tell you what to think, but merely to encourage you to think about what you think, and to think consistently about it. And by “it,” I mean them, and by “them” I mean Christmas and Halloween- although this has lots of applications. It’s like duct tape or bacon.

Every Halloween we hear that we should NOT celebrate Halloween for one of two reasons:

  1. It has roots in evil paganism, and so, even though the majority of us have no idea what that means or what used to be done in its name (And whatever it was, it was certainly not dressing up small children as licenced movie characters and going door to door asking for candy from friends and neighbors) it’s an evil pagan holiday.
  2. Evil Pagans today do evil pagan things on that day, and non pagans do sinful things on that…
