VerseD: 1 Peter 3:12

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Peter 3:12, ESV

Do not expect God to listen to your prayers if you openly flaunt your sin.

But if you sincerely draw near to Him and trust in Him, God hears every prayer you pray!

VerseD: Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10, ESV

Only God can make us good and clean.

Lord, give us wisdom to seek You, and clean our hearts and minds as You cleanse our souls.

Naughty Nothing – Pursuing Illusion

Do not let your desire to read Anthony’s thoughts be naughty! You will understand if you read his entry on Proverbs 11:6. Do it.
Daniel

Proverbs 11:6

“The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.”

Other Versions

As I did with the last verse, let’s look again at a couple of other versions of Proverbs 11:6. Let’s look at the New King James (NKJV)and the New International Version (NIV).

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.” –  NKJV

The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.” –  NIV

It would seem that the part that is causing any confusion or needs any clarification is the word “naughtiness.” I wonder if that has anything to do with the phrase we hear around Christmas, “naughty or nice?”

Naughtiness

Whenever I hear this word it makes me think of strict elementary school teachers, paddles, grandmothers, and disobedient, candy-stealing…

VerseD: Galatians 5:13

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Galatians 5:13, ESV

Too many churches teach we can do whatever we want, being free in Christ. If we are not crucifying our flesh daily, we may be showing our true allegiance … to ourselves, not Christ. Choose Christ.

In Their Own Words… The Founding Fathers and Our Christian Heritage

I share, not so much for Anthony’s thoughts, as for the thoughts that were shared over 200 years ago.
We may not be a Christian nation, but those principles were used at the formation of our nation.
Daniel

Anthony Baker's avatarThe Recovering Legalist

Every year around this time the godless, anti-Christian, anti-religious, “spaghetti monster” fans wear out the keyboards of their iMacs as they hammer any and every posted news article having anything to do with the Christian stones in our nation’s foundation.

Just this week a story about another school taking down a student-donated 92-year-0ld plaque hit the news. The comment sections of various sources that published the story were overflowing with arrogant atheists preaching the virtues of “separation of church and state.” Obviously, their hatred of Christianity (not so much the desire for pluralism) was fueling their snarky vitriol.

As if the trolls got together beforehand and decided what would be the most effective “shut up the enemy” type of argument, one of the most common mic-drop-type attempts to end any defense of the Ten Commandment plaque went like this:

“If you are OK with posting the Ten Commandments, then…

VerseD: Matthew 6:25

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:25, ESV

We should make sure we are good stewards, but our focus in life should be the Lord. What are we doing for Jesus to the glory of the Father?

Look to our Creator and Provider. He alone can calm our fears and anxieties.

7 Words that Distinguish Our Founding Fathers from Modern Americans

Them’s tough words. And true.
Daniel

Anthony Baker's avatarThe Recovering Legalist

“We hold these truths to be self-evident…”

If there were ever any words that are so antithetical to today’s culture, these words from the Declaraton of Independence stand out above them all.

Believe it or not, the founding fathers of the United States of America firmly held to the belief that there are absolute, transcendent truths by which we are able to govern and judge society.

They not only believed there are “truths,” but they believed that these truths are “self-evident.” In other words, they believed that these transcendent truths, rooted in the nature of God, were not hard to find, but plain for all to see, should they only open their eyes. Hence the term self-evident.

Today’s culture has totally rebelled against the concepts of truth and anything that is self-evident. For example, the truth is that God created male and female (Gen. 1:27; Mark 10:6), and what…

The scientific case for a young earth model

This is a rather succinct look at some of the science behind why Earth is here … and not necessarily very, very, very old …

A Bit Of Orange's avatarA Bit of Orange

Many people want to know if we Young Earth Creationists can make a case for our position beyond merely poking holes in the Deep Time/Evolutionary position. The answer is yes. Here are just a few examples of scientific observations which prove the deep time/evolutionary timeline to be impossible, and that the earth is, at most, .02% the age we are told by evolutionary dogma (note- NOT 2%, but 0.02%):

  1. The faint sun paradox: The sun is getting brighter over time, which means it was darker in the past. If the earth is 4.5 billion years old, then the earth would have been frozen solid at the time life was supposedly evolving. But even worse, the ice and snow would have reflected back enough light to make the earth even colder, and it would have never thawed.

Deep time Ice age models have the same problem. Once an ice age begins…

Overboard With Everything (11:4)

Another reminder here for you about the other blog I contribute to. This particular entry is by David, and yulu may fall over yourself with the impact of this truth.
Daniel

David's avatarProverbial Thought

Proverbs 11:4

“Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.”

Extending Life

According to Wikipedia approximately 250 people are believed to have invested in cryopreservation as a means of maintaining their bodies in a suspended state after death. They hope that science will one day find a solution to whatever it was that killed them so that they may live again! Considerable wealth is necessary to fund cryopreservation, but the fact remains that even the wealthy die. No amount of money can change the fact that our days on earth are numbered.

Death Approaches Silently

Years ago while anchored in the Shatt-al-Arab River we hosted some officers from another British ship in our bar one night. I spent a long time listening to one of them telling me about his perfect his life. He had bought a new flat (apartment) back home, and a new…

VerseD: Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Psalm 19:1, ESV

There is no reason to not believe in God. Creation itself points to a Creator.

The wise will find their way, also, to the Son of God.
