VerseD: Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17, ESV

Our Savior God calms our tormented souls and complaining hearts through His sacrificial love, and He teaches us to sing with Joy and by His Holy Spirit.

This Sunday at Church: Be ready to weep with those who weep

Whether it was my dad trying to go to church without mom those first few months or the young woman who did not like talking to most Christians after her dad died or the retired person who felt abandoned and scared after leaving the work force – or even the child whose favorite toy was lost – it is amazing how joining in with someone’s pain and helping them with that burden can make you grow in your faith and possibly grow theirs or invite them in to faith. Grief is hard, but we are called to join in it with those suffering.

Daniel

P.s. Yes, those were references to real events.

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following:  Be ready to weep with those who weep.

VerseD: 1 Peter 2:16

Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
1 Peter 2:16 ESV

Freedom is the ability to choose. We are free to choose sin (from which we have been freed), but why would we want to use our freedom to slap God in the face rather than love Him?

VerseD: Matthew 7:13-14

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”
Matthew 7:13‭-‬14, ESV

We should not be surprised that “the world is going to hell in a handbasket,” for we have been warned by Jesus. It does not mean we should like it.

We should strive to make sure we are on the narrow path and bringing as many along for the ride as we can.

VerseD: Proverbs 27:17

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17, ESV

As said in Hebrews, do not give up meeting together with fellow believers. We keep each other on track, in truth, and in the hope of Christ.

VerseD: Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV

We have nothing to fear. Our God takes care of His own. The worst others can do to us is kill us, and that means we join our Lord.

VerseD: Proverbs 18:2

A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.
Proverbs 18:2, ESV

How easy it is for us to claim understanding without knowledge. We think we know God’s will and desires, but frequently we push our own onto His.

Humbly seek God through His Word and Church, being willing to learn before offering opinions.

VerseD: Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O Lord , and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.
Jeremiah 17:14, ESV

God alone is our Healer and salvation. Trust in our Creator and Savior. Give Him the praise He deserves.

Paying For It

And like yesterday with Chris’s Proverbial Thought, today it is Anthony’s that pairs nicely with Wally’s thoughts on his blog about what we do (or don’t do)! (Wally should consider writing a post or two for Proverbial Thought!)

Proverbs 13:13

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.”

Scorn and Respect

There is a danger in avoiding responsibility and not listening to a warning.

Are you aware that we are each responsible for all of our decisions? Are you aware that every choice has a consequence?

The NIV states this verse thusly: He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects command is rewarded.

If you are told not to do something, and you do it anyway, you will pay for it. If you are told to do something and you do not do it, you will pay for it. Whether it be having an upset stomach for eating too many sweets before dinner, losing a friend for breaking trust, going to jail or prison, or losing your life, being told not to do something and doing…
