Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 4

I have much respect for Dr. Ross as a scientist and even an apologist, but I obviously disagree with him on certain things.
Thanks again to ApoloJedi for this review series.

Wisdom of the Ages

In this chapter, Dr. Ross laments the idea that biblical creationists have published saying that for the balance of church history, the church has taught and believed in a recent creation. Dr. Ross gives examples of scholars from the 1st – 4th centuries that had doubts of the six day creation.

  • Philo – “It is quite foolish to think that the world was created in six days or in a space of time at all.”
  • Justin Martyr- Dr. Ross mentions Martyr, but not why he believes Martyr questioned the teachings of scripture.
  • Hippolytus – from Dr. Ross “most of his writings have been lost. What scholars have recovered gives no explicit indications of what he believed about the duration of the creation days or about the dates for creation beyond his statements that humans have resided on Earth for only…

VerseD: John 15:2

Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
John 15:2, ESV

Those who refuse to change, God removes from His presence.

His faithful, He molds to be more like Christ, and it sometimes hurts but will be worth the eternal joy to come.

VerseD: Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27, ESV

God made us, so He absolutely has the right to set the standard, tell us what is best for us, and how we ought to live.

We should listen and obey our Creator and love Him for loving us so much.

VerseD: Galatians 5:24

And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Galatians 5:24, ESV

God accepts us for who we are, and then He changes us. We still have our personality, but the things we want and the way we think about things should change.

Let God change your desires. Put them on the cross, and walk with the risen Lord daily.

This Sunday at Church: Talk to your Kids about what they learn at Church

I have the philosophy that we are all children (i.e. children of God), so Jim’s advice today is good for little kids all the way to older adults.
Ask each other about what they learned from church, Bible study, and other small groups. Even their daily reading!

VerseD: Matthew 7:24

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24, ESV

If our worldview, our way of thinking and knowing what is true, is not grounded in Christ and the Bible, we will be deceived by many things and wander aimlessly through life (or in the wrong direction!)

VerseD: James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
James 1:17, ESV

We should always give thanks to God for the good in our lives, for His promises are true and He never changes. We can trust His faithfulness.

Jesus Loved Barabbas

Jason Sneed's avatar

A few weeks ago the video below was played at my church and WOW, is it powerful! We all know, even most unsaved people, that John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life”.

That is an unbelievable verse that we have read, heard & quoted ourselves for years. But do we fully understand that verse? I am so thankful for His love and grateful for His mercy that He has so richly given to me. But what I have a hard time understanding is His love for someone that would not accept Him and not follow Him. In other words – Barabbas! As the video says, we have no mention of Barabbas being saved and living his life for Jesus, yet Jesus loved him.

I am a father of a 15…

Presuppositional Apologetics Grounds Acumen

This may be on the longer side, but I also discovered Presuppositionalism through Dr. Jason Lisle and agree with the conclusions. This is a decent summary of Presup with a good example of its use.

You think this hashtag will begin trending? Probably not

When I first started hearing about presuppositional apologetics several years, ago, I’ll admit, it took me a while to get the concept. It’s not a way of thinking that I was taught growing up.

I was first introduced to the philosophy by Jason Lisle’s book, The Ultimate Proof of Creation. Dr. Lisle builds a strong case for the layman to understand, but I was unsure how or when to ask questions. I watched videos from Sye Ten Bruggencate, James White, Jeff Durbin, and Greg Bahsen. Each time I learned a little more, and after practicing with in my own interactions online, I feel more comfortable with sharing the gospel through presuppositional apologetics.

How does one start? Ten Bruggencate puts it this way: “Read your Bible and believe what it says.”

VerseD: Matthew 16:24

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
Matthew 16:24, ESV

We must put to death our sinful desires and actions and let Christ change us ever more to think and act like Him through the power of the Holy Spirit.
