What is Presuppositional Apologetics?

Basically, yep.
True, sometimes folks like Sye Ten Bruggencate and Jeff Durbin get stuck in the loop of saying things like “By what standard?” or “Do you know that is true?” (And they are not wrong.) But they also usually do a great job with argumentation.
Also, isn’t it more conversationally violent to resort to ad hominem attacks and trying to shout down and ridicule others, as many prominent/vocal atheists do.

OakwoodSunsetThis week I saw in my Twitter feed this claim from an atheist

Presuppositional Apologetics is conversational violence

Some of the subsequent discussion helped me to see that most people, like this skeptic, do not understand the what the term means. Many people think it means one of the following

  • I’m right, you’re wrong, that’s the end of it
  • I have blind faith in the deity of my family/culture/choice so I’m right
  • I don’t have any evidence, so I just assume God

This leads many skeptics to wrongly think they have defeated a presuppositional argument with the following fallacies

  • “You have faith in your sky-daddy, but I have evidence”
  • “Your blind faith is simply a result of you being born into a Christian family in America. If you were born in India, you’d be a Hindu”
  • “You have no evidence, so you have to resort to word games”
  • “Presup (presuppositional…

VerseD: Romans 8:6

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6, ESV

Where you focus your thoughts determines how you act.
Do you focus in earthly pleasures or worldly woes?
Or do you focus on God, His Word, and our eternal destination?

The Church during the days of Corona Virus: Pray for your Church to be able to meet again

Our local church reopened in June while maintaining livestreaming for those who choose to remain home and/or are medically urged to remain home. But it would be nice to see everyone, again. It would be nice to not have these limits and expectations placed on us or anyone in society.
As long as people remain in a solid, biblical church, I am not overly saddened (though, of course, I would love everyone to be at “my church”).

Let us continue to pray for our society and to be able to freely meet together, again.

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ
2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV

VerseD: Mark 9:23

And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”
Mark 9:23, ESV

Our God is a God of miracles. Ask Him to stretch out His mighty hand and do what seems impossible, and see what He may do.

VerseD: Psalm 34:8

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Psalm 34:8, ESV

Our God provides all of our needs, especially our eternal salvation through Jesus Christ. This salvation is something to experience, and this by believing the Word, the Bible.

VerseD: Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16, ESV

We have access to the throne of God through the work of Christ and by the Holy Spirit, so whether we face hardship, persecution, a desire to share the gospel, or want to say thank You: we can speak to God.

VerseD: Galatians 5:13

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Galatians 5:13, ESV

This life is not about us.
We have been freed to choose to glorify God and love others or remain focused on our own wants and desires.
This life is not about us.

VerseD: Matthew 22:37-39

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37‭-‬39, ESV

Love God.
Love people.
The best way to do both is to fulfill the Great Commission: make disciples who love God.
