VerseD: Psalm 119:2

Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart
Psalm 119:2, ESV

Our testimony is not merely what God saved us from. It what He has done and how He saved us, as revealed in every page of Scripture.
And that testimony should encourage us all the more to seek Him and draw near anew each day.

This Sunday at Church: Recommend a book to someone

Our elder team is actually compiling a list of helpful books and other resources for us to recommend to our little flock of believers. I am pretty sure this falls under all of those admonitions in Scripture to encourage one another!

Daniel

Within this series I will have a mini-series on reading.  This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Recommend a book to someone.

VerseD: Isaiah 55:11

so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11, ESV

God knows what He is doing. We do not save people. He does.
We preach and teach the Word, and God draws them near and changes hearts and minds.

VerseD: Psalm 42:2

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Psalm 42:2, ESV

What is your greatest desire?
If it is not God, seek Him first.
If it is God, seek Him all the harder!
And share His love, grace, and truth with others.

Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 10

I was going to take a day to think about sharing this, but I just did not have a billion years to spare.

Peace Through Paradise

In chapter 10, Dr. Ross presents the argument that stellar evolution is a continuing process and the biblical creationists resist the idea of ongoing star formation

The leaders at ICE assert that the universe is essentially static. They deny astronomers’ (even Christian astronomers’) assertion that “we can still see stellar evolution taking place in the heavens. We can see stars, galaxies, and planets in various stages of this cosmic evolutionary process.” Their response: “No we can’t! The heavens and the earth were finished” (italics original). As proof, they cite Hebrews 4:3: “[God’s] works were finished from the foundation of the world.”

I would add Genesis 2:1 as well: “Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.”

Dr. Ross asserts that the universe continues to get more and more organized through the continued evolution of stars…

VerseD: Joel 2:12

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning”
Joel 2:12, ESV

In this life, it is never too late to turn (or return) to God.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. Seek His mercy and grace anew today.

VerseD: Revelation 3:20

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20, ESV

Christ calls to us, for salvation and good works.
Heed His call. Answer. Be saved, and help others.

VerseD: Romans 15:4

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Romans 15:4, ESV

We must not “unhitch” (Marcionism) from the Old Testament. All of Scripture can teach and encourage us.

VerseD: Proverbs 21:2

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.
Proverbs 21:2, ESV

We may think we are doing good things, but God can see our motivations, our intentions.
Maybe we want to help to because of the obligation, to feel good about ourselves, or even to get revenge!
Or maybe we want to love others. In Christ’s name.

Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 9

Batty science of death does not make some assumptions true. Death to Death! (One glorious day)

Good God, Cruel World

If there is a more distinct separation between the views of biblical creationists and old earthers, than death before sin, I don’t know what it would be. Ross agrees in his opening of chapter 8

One emotional lightning rod stands taller than all others in the creation day controversy: “Allowing for the millions of years for the fossil layers means accepting death, bloodshed, disease, and suffering before Adam’s sin.” The idea of death before the fall (of Adam and Eve) sparks heated debates. Young-earth spokespersons say an ancient fossil record “documents death, disease, suffering, cruelty, and brutality. It is a very ugly record.”? How can such “ugliness” be compatible with a powerful, loving Creator? Young-earth scholars say it cannot. Most people believe death is bad.

The Bible would agree with “most people” in this instance. I Corinthians 15:26 “The last…
