Review – A Matter of Days – Chapter 15

I have been seeing so many who disagree with even the possibility of a young earth resorting either to arguing against older (usually outdated) creationist arguments or by using outside definitions to explain “what young earth creationists really mean.” Dr. Ross does much of this himself in this book. Every side has a distant starlight problem, but discounting arguments merely because of consensus is, frankly, unscientific.

Challenges to an Old Cosmos

This is indeed the most difficult chapter for me to review. Since I am not a practicing astrophysicist or astronomer, my review will be as a layman, and I freely admit that I do not fully comprehend many of the issues mentioned.

Having said that, Dr. Ross does take a large chunk of the chapter refuting ideas that biblical creationists no longer believe or are rhetorical (Challenges 1-4 and 11)

In challenge 7, Dr. Ross gives reasons why he disagrees with Jason Lisle’s Anisotropic Synchrony Convention (ASC). In their most recent debate, when Dr. Ross brought up his disagreements, Dr. Lisle showed why Dr. Ross’s assumptions and reasons were based on the question begging fallacy and flawed assumptions. Because Dr. Lisle has shown to be consistent in his biblical hermeneutics, I find his answer more compelling.

This Sunday at Church: Pray for those at Risk with Corona Virus

I personally know people who have to work in high risk areas and/or are immunocompromised. Friends have family members who have contracted C-19. Regardless of what each of us feels about this virus (“It’s just a bad cold. Why is everyone freaking out?” to “We’re all gonna die!”), we can pray for those who are sick, are in danger of being sick, and are affected by this whole thing. (For example, two of my three jobs are on hold, if one of them survives the effects on business, which itself affects at least 5 others workers and entire church community. The other affects all those who planned on getting married during this time plus the hundreds of people who work weddings for their career.)
Lord, grant peace to those directly affected by this pandemic, wisdom to live through this situation and possible illness, and protect us from illness and worry. Whatever Your will during this time, help us to draw near to You, to trust You, and to be Your hands and feet during this time.

The Domain for Truth

More and more churches are doing service online in light of the virus.  Our “This Sunday” series will be going over a Corona Virus edition.  Last week we posted “Helpful Considerations in using Zoom for the Glory of God.”  If you are experiencing Church online here’s something you can do this Sunday: Pray for those at Risk with Corona Virus.

VerseD: 2 Corinthians 4:7-9

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
2 Corinthians 4:7‭-‬9, ESV

We have the true gospel that saves, therefore we can endure a disbelieving world that taunts, mocks, beats, and kills us until Christ’s return.
