As we lead up to St. Valentine’s Day, understand living a godly life through some wisdom on the godly woman at Proverbial Thought!

It is fitting that this poem should come this week, the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, because it refers to our Lord as “our Lover”.

To make sure it is understood properly, “our Lover” is not a term that means “the one with whom I have sex,” nor is it a term that means “my boyfriend/girlfriend.” He is the One who loves our souls and lives so much that He literally gave His life to ensure we could be with Him, and then He rose from the grave to prove He was God AND SO THAT He could prove it was possible to be with Him.

And that should give us peace and hope.

how can we understand

a peace beyond understanding

not at all

but our Lover promises His Peace

 and His Peace and Love

are all encompassing

our Lover offers it

to all who seek

Get a closer look at wisdom over at Proverbial Thought!

O Christian, may this be a blessing to you, a reminder that our God is always close at hand. Always.

Proverbs 18:24 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

And Jesus tells us in John 15:15, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” And in Matthew 28:20, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,” with John 14:16-17, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

objects are closer than they appear

we pray for Your closeness
we expect to turn and see Jesus
we expect to see Your angels
we watch for great miracles

what if we are looking too hard
what if we are looking the wrong way
what if we are looking too far
we only need to hear You say

“I am closer than you are aware.
There is no need to look here and there.
My servants and signs are closer than they appear.
Believe when I say I am near.”

we may not always see Christ
because we refuse to look inside
some great miracles are missed
because we may be looking for the big

we need to remember Christ lives within
and that angels appear as men
and miracles come both small and large
but God always resides within our hearts

Walk in wisdom with some help from Proverbial Thought!

This month I have discussed new year’s resolutions, the state of the Church, and overcoming our own faults.

The poem today is about realizing just how close our Lord is to us, and it is the result of overcoming due to our resolving to follow Christ.

Do you walk with Christ? Do you live in the power of the Holy Spirit? Do desire to walk with Him?

walking with

in our walk with our Savior
we long to be walking with
Him right next to us  or
at least one of the angelic
we pray that we might see
with our eyes being trained
Him walking with us down the street
and to know we are safe
but our God tells us anew
that He has been there all along
He is always with me and you
and will be until He comes

Act on the call of wisdom and head over to Proverbial Thought!

Lepers have always been cut off from society. Almost no one wants to touch them, and they can become social outcasts from the idea that they can transmit their disease to others.

Jesus was the only one who would touch lepers. His touch could make them whole and able to rejoin society. The change He made in them then changed how people thought and acted.

In many churches today, there is another form of leprosy that must be healed. We are a people who need to have our thoughts and actions changed.

We must turn to Jesus for this healing and change!

______

“I don’t feel God in my life”

“I got nothing from the service”

“I cannot love anymore”

we cannot seem to feel God

are we emotional lepers

there is a cure

we must cut ourselves deep

we must cut ourselves to get clean

this is by doing

stop reading about acts of faith

stop wishing for miracles

stop praying for the world to change

and

heaven will come down

God will move in power

your leprosy will be healed

Be faithful to God, and find some wisdom through Proverbial Thought!

I would rather not start this year on a sour note, but this is a message that needs to be shared. It is based on several passages in the Bible, most importantly Hosea and Revelation 2:1-7.

unfaithful Bride

the Bride has proven unfaithful
She has turned to other lovers
but Her Bridegroom calls out
even now He still loves Her

repent of Your waywardness
turn back to the Lord  O Church
You have forgotten Your first Love
turned away from the One Who gives You worth
O glorious Church who is His Bride
turn back to Jesus  our Love
give up false teachings and lies
and return to our wonderful God
no longer be the unfaithful Bride
but give Yourself over to Him
His love does purify us wholly
and cleans off our adulterous sins

Search out wisdom at Proverbial Thought!

I am not big on New Years Resolutions, but really good plans for the future are pretty amazing.

The best thing you can do is resolve in your heart every day to let God change your heart and mind.

search my heart

my God

know me completely

clean me out

make my heart

O God

all for Your glory

 make me Yours

Worship God through wisdom, some of which can be found at Proverbial Thought!

Seeing as this week we celebrate Christmas, let us do what the Magi did. Christmas is a time to remember the coming of Christ, the first time when He came to die and the second time when He returns to make all things new.

That deserves our awe, admiration, and worship.

i only want to worship You

i only want to worship You
You are the only One worthy
i cannot help but worship
for Your matchless love compels me
i will worship You every moment
through my actions and speech
i will worship You alone
until Your glory is all i see
i will worship the One True God
for You are all i need
i only want to worship You
for all of eternity

Get a taste of wisdom at Proverbial Thought!

You shall have no other gods before me” and “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them” were the first to of the Ten Commandments.

God had to give them, because … things have not changed even 3,500 years later.

During the Christmas season, to use the cliché, let us remember the reason the season: Jesus the Christ, and not our gifts and finances.

paper idol

throughout history
man has rebelled
against the One
Who created it all
they created their own
gods they could control
metal and wood
all kinds of idols
in our world now
we have our false gods
some still look the same
silver and gold
some are of wood
others of fabric
idols of flesh
and even two sticks
the idol today
that is popular
is moved around
on slips of paper
these idols have
many different
sizes and colors
and also prints
sometimes only
the evidence
of these idols
of dollars and cents
will be found
instead of a clear
and physical
legal tender
our paper idol
controls our lives
even when we
try to deny
but in opulence
and in scarcity
all people find
they are in need
though some may not
worship this thing
our culture has made
money the king

Stand tall in wisdom through some words from Proverbial Thought!

It is the holiday season. There are many things coming up and happening all around us.

It can be easy to get frustrated with so many things happening at once.

It can be easy to grow discouraged with so many people acting crazy.

It can be easy to become bitter in this season of joy with so many acts of selfishness committed to “get that perfect gift”.

This poem was not written because of the Christmas season, but it certainly applies!

   stand firm

how many times do we run away
from a place or situation
that is uncomfortable or hard
when we could have led someone to salvation
Jesus never said life would be easy
but that it would be difficult
and our running from everything
leaves the spiritually dead  in their rut
we must stake out our God given ground
and stand firm in the power of Christ
live out our lives in love and grace
to invite others to know what true life is like
we must stand firm in our faith
acknowledging that we are weak
but persevering for their sake
so that all may hear God speak

Repent of foolishness and find some wisdom from Proverbial Thought!

The poem today was written in a moment when I was being tempted to fall back into old sinful patterns. I recalled times when God had helped me overcome temptations and sins, and I remembered many of things found in the Bible about faith, temptation, and obedience to God.

i keep on doing what i want
instead of seeking out Your Heart
why do i do what i hate
knowing that You are the only way
i pray for my heart to mend
but do i truly repent
i need You to help me learn
to show my heart to be sure
of Your reigning Lordship
help me to believe it
fill me with Your Spirit and love
to feel that of You i never have enough
guide my every step and thought
teach my heart to bow in awe
thank You for Your holy grace
for forgiving me every day
thank You for loving this wayward son
and showing me Your matchless love
