I Would Take Her Thorn – Reblog

My wonderful wife helped me by sending me this entry from The Better Mom. It goes perfectly with the topic this week. Enjoy.

I Would Take Her Thorn

March 21, 2012  By Kara Chupp

Her shoulders rise and fall as
she shuffles towards me.
Backpack is dragging with more
weight than usual.

A hard day at school.
She tries to smile.
Tries to say…
Hi Mom
But the words are choked out by
a sob that snatches them–
Away.

My own eyes start to sting.
My own heart starts to pound.
Pulse with pain.
For this child that I love
So deeply.

This child whose hurt
I would rub clean,
Wash clear away if I could.

I pull her near,
A little tighter.
Whisper my love,
Forever.

I pray she will feel His love,
A little stronger.
That He will speak His love to her,
His perfect love.

I know He’s using these hurts to draw her to Him.
But I would take her thorn if I could.

I can thank Him for the pain that has pulled me closer.
But thank Him for her hurt?
For her tears?
I want to grab her and run–
Her far away from all of these 10-year-old-heartaches.

But I know–
That He knows her.
He made her.
He loves her.
Best.
That all this helps her find her footing
In Him.

So…I will be thankful.
For the hurt that makes her more compassionate.
For the struggle that makes her more persistent.
For the pain that makes her need Him
More.

Winning others for any cause takes good leadership. Usually, the best way is servant-leadership. Here is one idea of what leadership can look like:

What is leadership?

What is leadership?
First, let go and let God

Give up and let God in control

Second, grab hold and let God

Let God guide your life
Take control through Christ

Third, step up and let God

Find friends in Christ
Help each other move
Grow in God together

Fourth, step out and let God

Move out of your comfort zone
Take a friend with you
Reach out to those without
Talk with them about Christ

What is leadership?

Trusting God
Sharing His Word
Loving on others
Diving headfirst
Running towards God
Bringing others

a) My clock did not change today, because I live in Arizona. Take that! (This is also a reminder that you are now an hour late if you did not change your clocks last night/this morning)

2) Communion is great. Read the poem:

Sacrament of Love

I’m given bread and take and eat
I’m given wine and take and drink
I’m told to do this in remembrance
I’m told to do this with reverence
I do not understand Your Love
I do not know quite enough
I read Your Word and study
I read Your followers daily
I admit I do not get it
I admit I need Your Spirit
I’m searching more for Your face
I’m searching for You in this place
I study more to know You more
I study more down from the floor
I’m getting more of what I need
I’m getting You while on my knees
You help me know You above
You show me this Sacrament of Love
You’re helping me know the Holy One
You’re showing me Your Only Son

Please do not think this poem is a commentary on autistic children. However, it can be seen as a cry of a repentant sinner, and that all people, including autistic children, have potential for growth and change. We must remember, however, that there is only so much we can do as humans. The rest is entirely dependent on God.

change me

A change is being made
deep inside my heart
A change that is ripping
my soul and body apart
It reaches down inside
to the depths of me
It reaches way deep down
to meet all of my needs
This change fills me with
a nagging hunger
This change brings to me
knowledge of the Word
So, Living Word come
show what you are about
Holy Living Word come
help me love it out
I need You in my life
to help remove my doubt
I need You in my life
to change me inside out

Autistic poems

My last post was not the only thing to come to mind while at the Rock & Worship Roadshow. Two acrostic poems also came to mind. This week, you get more poems! You are so fortunate!

AUTISTIC CHILD

Amazing life
Unexpected blessing
Totally capable, yet
In need of assistance
Simple in understanding, with
Tremendous potential
Inate curiosity
Curiouser approach to life

Childhood made difficult
Hindered, but not stopped
Inhibited, but empowered
Lovable and
Deserving of our love

AUTISTIC FAITH

Ability in Christ for good, but
Underperforming faith
Trying in our own power
Insufferably fighting,
Struggling against God, yet
Trusting His hands
In need of His grace
Comforted by His voice

Forgiven completely, but
At times we forget
In need of His help with
Taking up our cross
Healing only if we trust Him

We are all different. I am discussing that in my latest college course. It is … fun? It can be, actually, but I am busy. This means I do not have a lot of time to enjoy the work! Anyway:

your fault

Why do people look for faults?
Why do people mock others?
All you do is laugh at “them.”
You look at only colors.
Remember that you have faults, too.
You do not have to keep them as scars.
When you see the faults of “them,”
Use those to see what yours are.
Do not look and discriminate.
Rather, use these to discern
What faults you have yourself.
Now use this to try and learn.
Learn how to work on your faults
And to learn from “them,” also,
So that your faults are not so bad,
And others look better, as well.

Here is a sort of fun one that I wrote one day in minor frustration about some people’s unnecessary reviews of my poetry.

God bless!

i do not like to write poetry

i do not like to write poetry
but poetry just comes to me
i get criticized about my poems
that i do not try enough with them
but if you do not like what i write
you do not have to read
if you like
my poems are for me and God
and i write them all because
i wish to express my feelings
about people or God s teachings
if you should read from these
just try to see what i mean
i do not like to write poetry
but it helps me know me
and God

I not only write poetry, as you may have learned by the bulk content of this blog. I occasionally also write little quips, proverbs, parables, and other fun things. Like this:

If God thinks you are driving too fast,
He will put a natural speed bump in your way…
Some would call it a deer.

I still have a poem for you, though!

taking my cross

Jesus said to take up your cross
and then to follow Him.
I tried to take up my cross
and bear the whole burden.
Finally I gave up carrying my cross
and asked Jesus to help.
Then I found that He was strapped to my cross
waiting for me to lose myself.
Now I let Him carry my cross
and He bears all the pain.
I just ride along on my cross
praising His holy name.

The poem this week was written back in 2002, and I had slated it to be posted this week before I realized what I would write this past Tuesday! I truly enjoy seeing how God works.

not me—God

why look to me for help from God
when He is waiting for your call
i do not know what you should do
but God can surely get you through
please look to God for your needs
and if you have to come to me
make sure it is for prayer support
that is what i am good for
i may not know how to aid
but you will be fine in Jesus Name

I really like the way God works. Today’s poem actually lines up with the topic of the past couple weeks. Also, I attended the “Calvinism, Arminianism, and Free Grace Seminar” yesterday. John Correia was the main speaker helping everyone understand better what Calvinists, Arminians, and he and others within the Free Grace Theological background believe. (If you have not heard of Molinism yet, look it up!) Anyway, one of the things discussed by two of the speakers included justification by works and our own sinful nature. I thought of all of the “religion” talk of the past few weeks. Then I saw what poem I had for this week, and WHOA!

I hope you enjoy:

my greatest tempter

my biggest foe i cannot name

this person leads me astray

i cannot get very far from him

he is everywhere that i am

he constantly tempts me with sin

and keeps me away from Him

this enemy of mine you see

for this person is actually

                                                 me
