“and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32, ESV
Jesus is the Truth. He is the One who sets you free.
Lean on Jesus.
Trust Him.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17, ESV
Through the Holy Spirit and by the power of the Son’s sacrifice and resurrection, the Father frees us from the chains of sin and death that bind our minds, hearts, and souls, and eventually even our bodies.
I am currently the Youth Pastor for The Church Next Door in Prescott Valley, AZ. On Sunday, August 11, 2019, I took over teaching the adult Sunday School class (the foundation of why we learn from history) before the regular service. (If you find yourself in North Central Arizona, specifically the Prescott Valley area, come join in from 8:45 to 9:45 AM, and then stay for the singing and sermon at 10!)
The second and third lessons were combined in the post two weeks ago, with a look at when the Church was founded and the various forms of leadership Jesus dealt with. Previous was a look at how he rebuked those in leadership.
Again, here are my notes:
The leadership in the time of Jesus included the entirely secular yet pagan Roman Empire, the hyper-religious Pharisees, the super-compromised Sadducees, the fastidious Essenes, and the rebellious Zealots.
Briefly, how do we see nothing new in our leadership?
Modern comparisons:
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:10, ESV
Some confess without ever believing. Some believe and are not able to confess.
However, it does take faith, and we are commanded to share (if possible) that Jesus is our Redeemer and Lord. (Matthew 28:18-20)
It may sound selfish, this being shared by a pastor (especially the bit about getting a book), but prayer is so good.
Daniel

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Encourage Your Pastors.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
John 3:36, ESV
The hard truth is that full belief in Jesus means obedience to Jesus. It is not strictly about rules but knowing how He has said to love Him.
But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.
Psalm 59:16, ESV
Do you praise God daily for what He has done, is doing, and will do? Do you have a song on your lips every morning praising God’s holy name?
Do it. He is worthy (and it makes your day at least a little better.)
Yep yep.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 15:13, ESV
Our faith is not blind but is also a gift from God. Ask Him to grant you the joy and peace that comes from the hope we have in Christ.
