VerseD: 1 John 4:11

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 John 4:11, ESV

We tend to expect a 50/50 input with relationships, each side giving and receiving equally. The example God gives for relationships is 100% – giving sacrificially expecting little or even nothing in return, yet always loving the other.

VerseD: Romans 15:5

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus

Romans 15:5, ESV

Sometimes we disagree, maybe even extremely dislike (hate?) each other. Yet God grants us peace and fellowship in Christ by the Holy Spirit.

VerseD: Hebrews 12:11

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Hebrews 12:11, ESV

It is not easy admitting we’re wrong or in need of correction, but God sends us through difficult times painful circumstances not to punish us so much as to purge disobedience and draw us closer to Himself.

VerseD: John 5:24

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 5:24, ESV

We like to think we are basically good, but we have inherent sin that separates us from God and has us under His judgment.

If we believe the truth of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection as our only means of salvation, then we are saved.

VerseD: Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7, ESV

We like to think we know enough or can figure everything out ourselves, but if we don’t start with God, knowing He has a standard that we fail to meet without Him, we are fools. Yet God can make us wise and loving if we trust in Him.

VerseD: 2 Corinthians 9:7

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7, ESV

We like to be selfish, but God can change us into selfless, generous givers like Christ.

This Sunday at Church: Pray for the overseas ministries your church support

We are currently in the midst of changing ministers overseas, so this is quite pertinent. I will be having a conversation with the new ministry leader this week. He is a local taking over for a missionary we had sent out! Please join us in lifting up all who do the Lord’s work abroad and who take over in there home!

Daniel

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Pray for the overseas ministries your church support. I love seeing how different churches support the work of advancing the Gospel overseas.  We must never forget the church has the Great Commission to go to the nations and preach the Gospel. So […]

VerseD: John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:5, ESV

God is our light. We push Him away causing darkness and evil, but He comes despite our evil efforts and shines on us to save us.

VerseD: Matthew 5:8

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

Matthew 5:8, ESV

A pure heart loves God and shows it by loving people.

VerseD: James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

James 5:16, ESV

We confess our sins knowing our God has said He will forgive us, and we show our love Him when we hear each other’s confessions and pray for each other.
