Another Prime Anniversary (17)

17 years ago this day, God blessed me with an amazing helper and friend, my wife Caitlin.

She has been with me through years of want and years of plenty.

We have encouraged each other through college degrees, and she made it possible to finally finish my M.Div. after two attempts and two schools.

We have been members (or “members”) of six churches, four of which I have been in leadership roles of some capacity. She has helped me grow in Christ and as a leader, especially as a pastor. This has helped me step into a new pastoral role, and she is an amazing pastor’s wife.

I know she has grown in Christ, for I have seen it, yet I pray she continues to grow deeper in her love and commitment to Christ and in drawing others nearer to Him.

She’s also beautiful and has become quite the amazing cook!

To quote The Beatles, “and I love her.”

Thank You, Lord, for this blessing. May we be a picture of Christ and His Church.

I love you, Caitlin!

Signed,

Daniel

A Quarter-Century Re-Birthday

On this day 25 years ago, at 6:46 PM CST, I bent my knee to Jesus as Lord and Savior. (If you do a search on this site for “birthday”, you will see the various explanations.)

I like to call it my Re-Birthday, as we call faith in Christ being born again. This comes from John 3 and 1 Peter 1. I encourage everyone to remember their own re-birthday (and if you aren’t sure/can’t remember, just claim your birthday.)

I also like to bake some sort of cake and then serve it to others as a way to teach self-sacrifice and becoming a servant to all as our shared salvation is celebrated.

Sometimes it’s messy, or we’re still a little crisp on the sides, but we have a sweet salvation.

This year, I get to start Christian Worldview and Intro to Philosophy courses (as one of the instructors) with 245 students who were all born after this momentous day in my life. Tomorrow I am with fellow seminarians who also were mostly born after this date! (2 are about my age and from Africa. We actually have about 30 students from Malawi [majority from here], Kenya [Gama is the one who invited me to his home and is about my age], Ghana [the other person about my age], and Sierra Leone.)

It is a little weird to think that I have been a Christian so long, especially having come to Christ as a teenager and now working with teens (and 20-somethings) as a youth pastor and college instructor.

God is so good.

Also, it is my mother-in-law’s birthday, so join me in wishing her a happy and blessed day! If not for her, I would not have my wife!

Also also, it is my friend Fletcher’s birthday. We met in seminary. He’s a TheoBro of the hughest order.

God bless you, and remember that Jesus Christ is the reason we live and move and breathe and have meaning and being!

Be excellent and party on!

A “Golden” Anniversary

Normally, I have a new picture of my wife and me from the past 48 hours before this post.

2009 – Ireland

Unfortunately, my wonderful wife of 13 years today has had to deal with an old man, as I threw out my back this last week and spent most of the time in bed or my recliner.

While I am quickly on the mend (relatively speaking), my wonderful wife has had to take care of me quite a bit. She has done well covering some of the “for worse” and usually having a smile.

Therefore, as June 13 comes along with our 13th anniversary, it feels a little like I prematurely entered my golden years. 🙃

Fortunately, we have made it 13 years, mostly having fun, relying on God, and loving each other.

I am so grateful for the gift God has given me in Mrs. Klem. She sometimes claims I am the better half, but I can attest (on my completely unbiased blog) that she is the better half.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, my love, and I pray the next 13 years are as good together (or better) as the first 13, Lord willing and unless Christ returns!
