Everything in the 66 books from Genesis through Revelation was given through men by God to show us how (and not) to live, find the truth of Christ, and grow together in godliness.

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Our Old Testament pointed toward Christ – it shows how we should live, that we utterly fail to live up to God’s standard, and that He made a way for us to be pure through the cross.

All of scripture is to lead us to Christ and help us grow in godliness, encouraging us in growth and hope.

Once again, if anyone says we do not need the Hebrew scriptures, the Old Testament, does not know the Bible. Here, Paul explicitly reminds the reader that even those writings give instruction, encouragement, and hope.
