VerseD: Deuteronomy 30:16

in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that the Lord your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it.
Deuteronomy 30:16, NASB

God expects love and devotion with perfect obedience. The great news for us is that He helps us with the power of His Holy Spirit and through the perfect sacrifice of His Son so that God sees the Son when He looks at us.

The One Church Plan and a Mouthful of Cigarette Butts

While I work out some technical difficulties trying to get new videos made, here is a bit of orange to tide everyone over.

Another dying church is debating whether or not they want to agree with the Bible. It’s a weird blend of sad, sickening, and so cliche that it’s boring.

From https://wesleyancovenant.org/2018/08/08/the-one-church-plan we read:

The One Church Plan (OCP) is predicated on two straightforward assumptions… Differences among United Methodists over sexual ethics, the institution of marriage, and ordination standards for clergy are not essential matters for the whole church.

Therefore, it is acceptable for annual conferences, local churches, and pastors to hold different opinions about them and still remain in a united church…First, strike from the UM Church’s “Social Principles” the statement that says, “[T]he practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching…Second, redefine marriage in such a way that allows for church sanctioned weddings between people of the same gender, and remove the prohibition against UM clergy presiding as same sex weddings. ”

VerseD: Luke 16:10

“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
Luke 16:10, NASB

How you live in the little, day-to-day humdrum of life can be evidence of your faithfulness toward great things.

If you want to do great things, be faithful in the ordinary.

VerseD: James 1:19

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;
James 1:19, NASB

As some say, “Listen twice, speak once.” Put another way, be patient. Maybe walk a mile in their shoes. As Jesus did, foregoing anger against those who revile Him to offer forgiveness.

VerseD: Colossians 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Colossians 3:15, NASB

No matter what is happening in life, Christ is our peace. He dwells in our hearts, and as we meet as the Church He comforts us through each other, as well.

Do You Hate to Sin?

Yep.

Anthony Baker's avatarThe Recovering Legalist

I hate it when I sin.

Some people hate to get caught, but I wasn’t caught. No one saw or heard or anything – only God.

I hate it when I sin because of the feeling it leaves, the drain on emotions, and the sense of powerlessness that leads to feelings of failure, defeat.

I hate it when I sin because I knew better! I knew better! It’s not like I didn’t know the consequences. It wasn’t like this was something I’d never before encountered. I just walked right into the sin and just committed it, just like it was the natural thing to do.

Oh, but that’s the issue, isn’t it? Nature. That battle between the redeemed and the unredeemed, the spirit and the flesh. How I look forward to the day when this tent in which I dwell is redeemed, also!

I hate it when I sin!

VerseD: Psalm 91:1

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High

Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1, NASB

Life can be hell. Just as relief from the hot sun can come from standing in the shade, so too can resting in God comfort us from the burning torment in this life and the life to come.

VerseD: Colossians 2:6

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him
Colossians 2:6, NASB

We receive Christ by hearing and believing the gospel. Likewise, we should be sharing the gospel and doing good works to help others come to the same saving faith.

VerseD: Acts 2:21

‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
Acts 2:21, NASB

There is only one way to eternity with God: believe in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and make Him Lord of your life.

Any other path leads to eternal destruction.

VerseD: Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9, ESV

We may get rewarded for our good works in this life, but our ultimate reward comes when Christ returns!
