VerseD: 1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7, ESV

“Do not judge a book by its cover.”

Only God can judge a person’s heart. You may not know their circumstances or motivations. Therefore, treat all people the same, with God’s love and with wisdom.

“Treat others how you want to be treated.”

VerseD: Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Proverbs 19:21, ESV

We may have our own plans, but God has a grander plan that we are each a part of. This is why James (4:15) tells us to say, “Lord willing” when we plan.

VerseD: Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17, ESV

By the Holy Spirit Christ lives within us. We join in the celebration of the redeemed, basking in the glory of the One who saves and loves us with gladness and singing.

As my mother-in-law says, happy people sing. And our heavenly Father is happy to save!

VerseD: Psalm 91:2

I will say to the Lord , “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:2, ESV

God wants to protect you and preserve you.

But remember that our ultimate protection and preservation is found for our eternal souls through faith in Jesus Christ.

VerseD: Hebrews 10:35

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
Hebrews 10:35, ESV

To slightly misquote the hymn, our confidence is found in nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

We have assurance of faith, salvation, and God’s strength as we spur each other on and remind each other regularly of Christ’s faithfulness.

VerseD: Micah 6:8

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8, ESV

What many fail to realize about the Golden Rule (treat others as you want to be treated) is how deep this rule goes.

We know about pursuing justice and showing kindness and mercy to others, but without the humble acknowledgment of the need for God’s love and wisdom those are basically meaningless.

VerseD: Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Romans 8:26, NIV

When you are hurting the most, feeling distraught and helpless, pray. Even if you do not feel like it.

If you struggle with what to say or even to say anything, just say Jesus. The Holy Spirit will fill in the rest.

VerseD: Proverbs 18:22

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
Proverbs 18:22, ESV

God is not saying to find the first person to marry.

Favor and blessings are only promised to those who seek His righteousness, and a good spouse is godly and willing to serve the other (both spouses!)

VerseD: Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21, NIV

Do you talk a lot? Or not at all?

What do you say when you speak?

Is what you say uplifting and wholesome or tearing down and frivolous?

VerseD: Isaiah 12:2

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
Isaiah 12:2, ESV

Is this true for you today? Is God your salvation, through faith in Jesus Christ? Do you still fear death or the worries of life?

Trust Jesus today.
