VerseD: John 8:12

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12, ESV

Our world is shadowed in the darkness of sin and rebellion, but our Light and Lord has come to us.

Turn to Jesus, our source of life.

Advent 2022 – Day 2: Isaiah 9:2

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

Isaiah 9:2, ESV

At Advent, we look back at why Jesus had to come, that He came, and then that He will come again.

We live in a dark world.

Sin entered the world when Adam and Eve broke the one command of God that should have been the easiest: “Don’t eat this fruit.”

Yes, sin means missing the mark, falling short, turning away from God.

Sin is ultimately separation. We are born separated from God because of our super-great grandparents, yet we also choose to remain separated by our own choices.

We live behind a veil that blocks His light, and that veil is too heavy to remove ourselves.

It is as if we blocked out the sun to stop it’s heat, and then we climbed into a steep cave, falling to the bottom, unable to climb back out let alone remove the barrier between us and God.

Yet God came to us, the sun itself removing the barrier and lifting us up. God Himself lifted the veil to be with us.

Yes, we still live in a darkened world full of sin and separation, but God has lifted the veil over us. As we go into this world, the people will see the light streaming through us from above.

May we seek to be that light as we take Him into this dark world.

VerseD: John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:5, ESV

God is our light. We push Him away causing darkness and evil, but He comes despite our evil efforts and shines on us to save us.

VerseD: 1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7, ESV

While we often fall short, as we follow the light of Christ we will sin less and less. We already are redeemed of all sin, so let us thank our Lord and God.

VerseD: Isaiah 60:1

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

Isaiah 60:1, ESV

Our God has bestowed His glory on us that we might shine in a dark world and lead others to His grace and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ.

VerseD: John 8:12

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12, ESV

It is the light of Christ, and should not be our deeds that repel and is not our good works that necessarily draw others to God.

Our goodness and light comes from Christ, and it will either repel or draw others in.

VerseD: Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16, ESV

God’s light is put in us by the Holy Spirit when we put our faith in Christ. Then Christ works in us to do good works in this world that some may also trust Him.

VerseD: John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:5, ESV

The light of the world descended to us to overcome our evil and disobedience with His love, Grace, and forgiveness.

VerseD: Isaiah 9:2

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

Isaiah 9:2, ESV

May you seek God and discover the blessings the light of His grace and forgiveness, the freedom of His love.

VerseD: Philippians 4:9

What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:9, ESV

The world watches us to find hypocrisy. Younger Christians watch us to know what is okay.

Live a life honoring to Christ as He lives through us. Give everyone good reason to follow us as we follow Him, our good conduct reflecting Him.
