VerseD: Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5, ESV

We deserved punishment and death for our rebellion against God, but Jesus took our penalty, as prophesied 700 years earlier.

VerseD: Romans 10:13

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:13, ESV

Jesus has done the hard work, dying for our sins. All we need do is believe and follow, obeying His commands to live God, love others, and love His Church.

VerseD: Romans 3:23-24

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus

Romans 3:23‭-‬24, ESV

We are all guilty of putting Jesus on the cross through our own sinful Avondale and desires, but it is that cross and His grace that has redeemed us from wrongdoing and God’s wrath.

VerseD: Matthew 28:6

He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.

Matthew 28:6, ESV

There is no body in a grave to be seen. Our Lord has risen, and He has ascended on high to right hand of the Father.

Jesus is our living Lord!

VerseD: Matthew 28:2

And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

Our God is not dead!

As He sent a messenger to reveal that truth, may we carry the truth to all the world.

“or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).

Our God came to us as one of us, died and He was buried in the ground. Despair could have held us, but He alone could defeat death.

And He did.

VerseD: Matthew 27:51

And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.

Matthew 27:51, ESV

Good came to us and died for our sin that separated us from Him. Now nothing separates us when we are washed in His blood, as the torn temple curtain shows us.

VerseD: 1 Peter 4:16

Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.

1 Peter 4:16, ESV

As our God came and suffered for us, we can expect to suffer for the name Christ. If they treated Him horribly, why should we expect any less? Let us feel honored to be treated the same as our Lord.

VerseD: John 13:34

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

John 13:34, ESV

God put us before His own comfort. Likewise, the world will see the truth of Jesus’ first and eventual second coming when they see the sacrificial love we have for each other within the Church.

VerseD: Philippians 2:7-8

but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Our God came to us, denying His privileges and hiding His glory, as a man, to show us the way, make us clean, and prepare a way until He returns or calls us home.
