VerseD: 1 Corinthians 13:1

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 13:1, ESV

If God’s love is not moving through us, even our most eloquent speeches, beautiful lyrics, and well-crafted writings are meaningless drivel that lead people astray.
God’s love saves us and leads us to bring others along.

Just Be Thankful You’re Alive!

Amen.

As I Was Reading…

As I was reading the book of Lamentations (not the happiest of reads), I read a verse I’d like to share with you.

Why should any living person complain, any man, because of the punishment for his sins? (Lamentations 3:39, CSB)

What does this verse mean?

Simply put, if you have been punished for your sins by a Holy God … and you’re still alive … you have nothing to complain about!

Seriously, so often we gripe about the circumstances we endure, yet those circumstances are often the result of our own sinful decisions.

But isn’t it a wonderful thing that we are so loved by our heavenly Father? Because he is rich in mercy, He does not pour out on us the punishment we deserve.

We are alive! We should be grateful!

Let us search and try our ways, and turn…

VerseD: Philippians 2:13

for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13, ESV

God changes us. No amount of self-help remedies nor willpower can make our lives significantly better, especially in terms of our eternal destination.
Trust in Christ alone.

VerseD: Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6, ESV

Life is easier (at least easier to understand and come to grips with) when God is the beginning, center, and end of all our thoughts, days, and expectations.
Focus on God to simplify life, at least for mental, emotional, and spiritual peace.

VerseD: Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23:6, ESV

Seeking God is the only way to find true goodness and mercy, and Christ is the only source of eternal life.

VerseD: 1 Corinthians 10:31

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31, ESV

Dieting (eating and drinking), working, loving others, or whatever you do in life, dedicate it all to God, doing your best and relying on God to do even better, for His glory.
We are here for His glory.

VerseD: Psalm 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3, ESV

This world is full of things and people that hurt and mistreat us, but God grants us peace of mind and forgiveness with the hope of freedom from all suffering in eternity.

VerseD: Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
Proverbs 9:10, ESV

No matter how smart or wise a person may be, true wisdom and knowledge comes from God and knowing Him. Peace of mind is found in Christ alone, knowing we are His and free from wrath.

VerseD: Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Psalm 139:23‭-‬24, ESV

On our own, we are woefully inadequate to accomplish true good, let alone alone save ourselves from our sin.
Our true peace is found in letting God show us our need for Him and His cleansing, saving work.
