Weekend Words & Sunday Stanzas – 03/03/2013

Head over to Proverbial Thought for your daily dose of the wisdom book!

There is a nifty little verse in John 8 that says “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (v. 36) Jesus was speaking about being set free from the bondage of sin, that we can spend eternity in His family by the power of His blood.

Our Lord needs all the praise, not only during this season of Lent which leads up to the celebration of His resurrection from the dead, but every single day of our lives!

Freedom given
freedom received
the Father giving
what we need
freed from a life
that held us in place
but thanks to the Christ
we shall see His Face
sin lost its power
in His glory
our lives over
a new eternity!

Go and read some wise words at Proverbial Thought!

This month of Weekend Words has had a focus on overcoming by the work accomplished through Jesus Christ for the glory of God. What better way to end the month than praising our Lord for His work!

Jesus is Lord

Who has saved us?
By Whose Name are we redeemed?
It is the Lord!
Jesus the Christ, our King!
His life was perfect,
Fulfilling the Law and the Prophets,
All that was said
Including His horrible death.
But what came of it?
“Hosanna!” fulfilled in Him!
Forgiveness dished;
Salvation from a life of sin!
And hallelujah!
Three days later He is risen!
Our Lord conquered death!
He is alive and lives again!
Praise the Lord!
Through His death and Resurrection
We too have a hope
Of seeing Him Who is in Heaven!
Let us proclaim,
Run up and down the streets,
“Jesus is Lord!
He ever was and ever will be!
Bow down to the King!
Praise His Name forevermore!
Let all who do not know hear
Our Jesus is Lord!”

Head on over to Proverbial Thought for some wisdom from God’s Word!

Perhaps you have heard or read this verse:

All of us have become like one who is unclean,  and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf,  and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
Isaiah 64:6

This is why we can not earn our way into heaven. It is only by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection that we have any hope of getting into heaven! The poem today is about this very thing:

 patchwork

we start out with a set of clothes
yet we keep those as we continue to grow
as we get older they start to fade
and we add to them various stains
we cannot clean them as we go
in fact our attempts create new holes
our lives and choices damage them
holes and stains become more abundant
we do things to patch them together
sometimes wondering why we bother
nothing we do will ever help us
but praise God that He sent Jesus
Jesus lived a perfect life
and in love for us went and died
if we accept His death we get new clothes
He gives to us pristine white robes
sometimes we might pick up stains
but His blood washes us and makes us clean
and do not worry about any holes
for holiness is meant for these robes

Here is another reminder to find wisdom over at Proverbial Thought!

Last week the poem was about overcoming temptation and struggle by the power of God.

Do you know what I have found over the last decade? In most instances, Satan has power over us for one simple reason: WE LET HIM! It is as though we forget we serve an all-powerful God, the Creator of everything. Even Satan needs to ask God for permission to do ANYTHING! (See the first chapter of Job)

We need to remember that through the power of Jesus Christ Satan is vanquished! HALLELUJAH!

vanquished

why do we let satan win
why is he given so much power
God has told us he is nothing
Christ defeated him forever
there is no power over us
no person or thing to hold sway
when Jesus died on the cross
He vanquished our enemy
the only power the devil has
is the power we relinquish
he frantically seeks to get it
because he knows he is finished
when a person responds to Christ
and the Spirit begins to move inside
that is accepting the gift on the Cross
which is power in this life
satan has no more hold on us
that devil has lost his grip
praise the Lord for what He did
now that satan is vanquished

Do not forget to get your daily dose of wisdom at Proverbial Thought!

Do you have struggles? Are there things that come between you and your relationship with God? Do you feel tempted by things that should not be temptations or simply seem too strong to beat?

Good news! There is hope!

God is the only One who can help. If we trust in Him, He can help us overcome. If we do not trust Him, He may still help us overcome!

This poem was written in August of 2007, when I was still living at United Christian Youth Camp on borrowed time! I just wanted something to happen that would either get me work or get somewhere useful! I began to realize I may have been letting my ambitions and desire to do something come between me and God.

i have temptations

i have temptations
that i deal with daily
i have struggles
that i let defeat me
i have many problems
that seem to be too large
i have giants around me
that taunt and barrage

but my God comes in
and He changes me
my God comes to me
and sets my mind free
my heart
my soul

i have temptations
that God saves me from
i have struggles
that strengthen my resolve
i have many problems
that seem to recede
i have giants around me
that with God i can defeat

Do not forget to get your daily dose of biblical wisdom (and some wise commentary) at Proverbial Thought!

Who are you?

Do you know?

This past week I discussed God’s love. While the rest of the world may convince you God does not exist, that it may love you more, or that you are not loved, Christ says different!

but Christ says different

i am weak
i am stupid
i know nothing
i am nothing
but Christ says different
i am strong in Him
i am wise in Him
i know Everything
because He is Everything

i am slow
i struggle
i cannot remember His Word
i cannot focus
but Christ says different
He is teaching me more
He is training me
His Word is in my heart
He is sending me out
to live His Word

Here is your usual reminder to check out the wise words over at Proverbial Thought.

Last week I showed you accepting forgiveness, a poem I wrote on August 12, 2007. Five days later I wrote a follow-up inspired by my own life. It is about being a Christian yet following the ways of the world for a time. I trust you will enjoy:

accepting forgiveness II

forgiven and freed

forgotten by me

living while thinking

God stopped forgiving

but when i come around

and His love i have found

inside of my heart

and know my sins are

truly forgiven

by God in heaven

i forgive myself

and accept His help

to clean my conscience

through repentance

then He takes the clean

whom He calls redeemed

and a party is thrown

for those He calls His own

each as guest of honor

personal blame over

we accept His pass

to a life which we sin less

and accept what He gives

the life His Son lived

Here is my usual reminder that you should get some wisdom from Proverbial Thought!

The poem for today was written on a hot August day in 2007. I have a hope that it speaks for itself:

accepting forgiveness

we lived our lives

living in our sin

but then found Christ

who showed how to live

You have forgiveness

but we lived the same

said You forgot it

but we held our shame

You said we are

forgiven now

we have moved far

with a simple vow

that You are Lord

and we submit

accepting Your Word

and living it

to live that life

to which You called us

accepting the light

in Your forgiveness

to live it out

means listening

that He is about

complete forgiving

everyone who

asks Him for it

accept it so

we can forgive

You probably are expecting this: do it right this year by remembering Proverbial Thought!

The poem for today was written exactly five years ago! Seeing as poetry can sometimes be confusing (especially mine!), I am providing some extra explanation.

And if I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but he then turns away from his sin and does what is just and right— if he gives back what he took in pledge for a loan, returns what he has stolen, follows the decrees that give life, and does no evil, he will surely live; he will not die. None of the sins he has committed will be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he will surely live.
Ezekiel 33:14-16, NIV

Yes, this passage is taken slightly out of context, but the message is the Christian message: when we put our faith in Jesus Christ, that we believe He was the perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, God says to each of us “None of the sins he [or she!] has committed will be remembered against him”!

cannot remember

i cannot remember why

i ever tried to deny

the Man in Jesus Christ

Who lived a perfect life

on a day when i felt tender

my heart i surrendered

and of my sin asked the Father

and He simply answered

“You know … I cannot remember.”

Do not forget your daily dose of wisdom from Proverbial Thought!

It seems fitting to finish off the year right: by praising God! Without further ado, here is the poem for today:

to Him, my Lord, the One

hallelujah
hallelujah
praise to my King
the One Who Loves
the One Who gives
the One Who gave
the Son of Glory

hallelujah
hallelujah
give Him the praise
to Him in heaven
to Him Who lives
to Him with grace
to Him that shows
His peace in turmoil

hallelujah
hallelujah
show honor to Christ
my Lord on High
my Lord of lords
my Lord of my life
my Lord that gave
His life up for mine

Taken from deeper words for God from a simple man of God by Daniel m  klem, page 256.

Happy New Year!
