VerseD: Colossians 1:13-14

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

We are born with darkened understanding and must turn to God who can truly enlighten us and change our thinking. This starts by acknowledging our sin against God and receiving Hos forgiveness in Christ.

VerseD: James 5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

James 5:16, ESV

We like to think we can do things on our own, including earning forgiveness.

We must regularly confess our sins – to each other that we might lift each other up, and to God that His forgiveness may flow in us.

VerseD: Ephesians 4:32

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32, ESV

We celebrate that our God has redeemed us, forgiven us our sins.

Now, we turn to others (even in the Church), showing the same kindness and forgiveness He has shown to us that they may also celebrate with us.

bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

We bring heaven to earth when we show the same compassion and forgiveness Christ showed us to those who hate, mock, curse, and abuse us.

VerseD: Micah 7:18

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.

We must get over our ideas of a God who loves completely unconditionally or lets all people “in”.

Our God forgives and loves, but it came at a great price. And what other god has ever done that? Only our great God!

VerseD: Matthew 6:14

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you

Matthew 6:14, ESV

We must change our thinking.

If we are unwilling to forgive others, why should God be willing to forgive us?

Evidence of our forgiveness will be the grace given to us that we share with others.

VerseD: Colossians 3:13

bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

We can accept the repentance of others, but sometimes we might be waiting when we should be the one to Repent.

Let us be quick to forgive, knowing God has forgiven us, even for things we may not be aware we are guilty of doing. Likewise, others may not be aware of the pain they cause.

We remember how much Christ has forgiven us, and that should push us to love on others in kindness.

There are enough issues in this world. Forgive brothers and sisters in Christ, as Christ has forgiven us. (We did nothing to deserve His!)

Matthew 6:14, ESV

Refusing to forgive others shows we refuse to let our debt be forgiven by God. In other words, forgiveness shows we are in Christ.
