VerseD: Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15, ESV

Our hope in Christ gives us peace. A thankful heart amplifies that peace. Regular fellowship with the Church amplifies our thankfulness.

VerseD: Psalm 91:1

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1, ESV

Seek God and His righteousness. Then, no matter what happens in this world, the hope of eternity will give peace, knowing you are His.

VerseD: Colossians 2:6

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,
Colossians 2:6, ESV

We should be wise about the teachings we allow to influence us, so read the Scriptures and live amongst those who follow good doctrine to the glory of God.

Consistency is key, as well.

Guided by Theology

One would think Dr. Ross became a biblical creationist in between ch7 and ch8 as he begins this chapter with

The Bible is a harbor of truth. And yet, navigating a harbor safely often requires a guide who offers clear, specific direction around dangerous obstacles especially during a storm. God calls Christians to love Him with all of  their minds, and to do so, serious followers must explore the breadth and depth of His recorded Word. Jesus said, “Seek and you will find” (Matthew 7:7). Good theology helps direct an honest search. Wise church scholars throughout history have acknowledged that determining the precise meaning of a biblical word or passage sometimes requires more effort than a mere surface reading. Many passages that address or allude to the age of the universe and Earth are difficult to interpret. Such sections require careful…

Do You Have the Heart of the Renewed or Unrenewed?

Anthony Baker's avatarThe Recovering Legalist

Do you ever wonder how to tell if you have been born again, saved, or renewed by the Holy Spirit?

Well, I found the lists below in a John MacArthur study Bible a while back, and I thought I would share them with you.

Do a self-assessment (2 Cor. 13:5), if you’re concerned. If you’re NOT concerned, yet you fit more in the bottom half of the list, I’m concerned for you! It might be good for you to check out the tab “Eternal Life” at the top of this blog. Seriously!

Again, this is not original on my part, but I thought it was worth sharing. If nothing else it can shine some light on areas needing improvement.

Heart, Character of the Renewed

Prepared to seek God. 2 Chr 19:3; Ezra 7:10; Ps 10:17

Fixed on God. Ps 57:7

Joyful in God. 1 Sam 2:1

Perfect with God.

VerseD: Acts 2:21

“‘And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'”
Acts 2:21, ESV

It does not say “everyone shall be saved.” It says “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

It is not enough to just go to church.

Believe for yourself. Today.

This Sunday at Church: Talk about what you read during the week

I am part of a very large group, spread out around the world!) participating in a daily reading plan in the YouVersion Bible app. It has discussion at the end. My wife and I are doing that and another one for just us, also in the app. Our church is going through Ephesians, and we assign readings to encourage everyone thi follow along and dig deeper.
There are many ways to stay engaged with the Word and each other about the Word.
Honestly, we have no excuse in the Western culture to not be reading something during the week. (I let the app read passages to me so that I hear it, too.) As it says in Ephesians 5, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her
by the washing of water with the word,
so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” (vv. 25‭-‬27, ESV)

So read the Word. Tell others about it this week.

Within this series I will have a mini-series on reading.  This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Talk about what you read during the week.

VerseD: Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9, ESV

We may never see the fruit of good works in this life, but our Father will reward us in eternity for our faithful witness for Christ.

VerseD: Isaiah 40:28

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
Isaiah 40:28, ESV

We cannot evade the sight nor deny the power of God. He sees and knows all, and He will one day judge us according to our sin or how we responded to and lived for Christ.

A Doctrine from Eden Repackaged (Faith In Words)

I think Anthony was a little too kind. The teaching mentioned here goes beyond heresy to full blasphemy. That is all for my added thoughts.

The Beginning

In order to put things in perspective, we must start with the beginning. And when I say beginning, I mean THE beginning. Please consider the following verses, for they are critical:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

It should be obvious, according to the above verses, that not only did God create the universe, but that the Word which He spoke was none other than Jesus Christ. The doctrine that Jesus is the “express image” of God the Father, even God Himself (Hebrews 1:3), is at the…
