Something funny and something serious for Pride Month

This Sunday at Church: Thank someone who works behind the scene

So maybe for the past few months it has been one of the youth boys doing sound stuff at our local church, but the point still stands! (Read this brother’s post to know what I mean!)

The Lord’s Day is important.  The Church is important.  Those are things near to my heart.  They are things near to the heart of God.  Christ died for His church.  The church, imperfect as it is, is what God uses to reach the lost and mobilize missions at the grass root level.  It is where one generation imparts the Gospel to the next generation and the younger generations bury one generation, preaching that same precious Gospel as a reminder of the hope of the Gospel and also to convert sinners to Christ for them to go to heaven.

VerseD: 2 Timothy 1:9

[God] who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,
2 Timothy 1:9, ESV

We are saved by Christ’s good work to do good works in His Name throughout this world to give glory to God. This is our calling in life.

VerseD: Isaiah 26:3

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3, ESV

True peace is found in God alone.

Turn to Him.

Trust Him.

VerseD: Job 19:25

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
Job 19:25, ESV

God is not dead.

Jesus was killed, yet He lives.

He is coming back to this world one day in judgment.

Follow Christ, and stand with Him!

VerseD: Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16, ESV

God understands us, for He became one of us through the Son who lived amongst us, was tempted as we are, and died for our sins. We now know we can draw near to Him as faithful servants and sons (and daughters!)

Slavery and Bacon

A Bit Of Orange's avatarA Bit of Orange

“Atheists” try to attack the Bible by saying it condones slavery. This is false and has been answered well more times than I can say. If you wish to see how, here is just one of MANY places you can start to learn more: https://youtu.be/o6sTsoGNqe8

And here’s another: https://youtu.be/l2q3fql-BlY

But let’s pretend that it’s true. Let’s pretend that this old, tired, false accusation against the Bible from ignorant internet skeptics is in fact entirely true. Let’s pretend that the Bible gives the old Thumbs-Up to the owning of other people like you would own a cow, a fish, or a toaster.

The Old Testament condemns the eating of bacon. But I like bacon. I like it very much! Does this mean the Bible must be false or somehow wrong?

So, you want to be a pastor?

Anthony Baker's avatarThe Recovering Legalist

With so much being posted on social media these days, even those in ministry have available to them a plethora of helps, lists, and general advice from experienced clergy folk.

Much of what is shared on Facebook and Twitter are written by the “pro’s” in ministry research like Thom S. Rainer, or long-time veterans of ministry like Joe McKeever. What rarely gets shared are articles and posts written by ordinary guys like me – probably because we aren’t professional authors or researchers.

Well, I want to share some helpful hints from an old-school, bi-vocational, small-church, in-the-trenches pastor with no access to research teams, only personal experience, and some common sense (but Logos software doesn’t hurt).

Hopefully, you will find the following 10 points helpful.

10 Words of Wisdom for Those Entering the Pastorate

  1. Get a biblical education. Seriously, it doesn’t matter if the school is only a rag-tag…

VerseD: 1 John 2:1-2

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:1‭-‬2, ESV

As Christians, we should be sinning less as we grow closer to Christ. Yet, we still live in a fallen world in sin-corrupted bodies. We will still sin, but Christ’s atonement covers even these sins, always and forever.

VerseD: Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Romans 8:18, ESV

Jesus promised His followers that we would have troubles in this life. He uses these troubles to bless others through us, and we will one day share in His glory when He returns and makes all things new.
