VerseD: Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6, ESV

Right and wrong.

Respect.

Making a great sandwich.

All of these are included in training up a child, and more.

The most important: to seek and love God.

(And remember, proverbs are guidelines and summarized truths, not hard and fast laws.)

VerseD: Proverbs 18:24

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24, ESV

Even Jesus had a small band of close friends (12) with an even smaller set of really close friends (James and John and Peter).

If you have hundreds of friends, but no confidants, you may find yourself alone when trouble hits.

VerseD: Proverbs 15:31

The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.
Proverbs 15:31, ESV

The ultimate life-giving reproof?

You are a sinner in need a Savior, and Jesus of Nazareth is that Savior.

VerseD: Proverbs 27:5-6

Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Proverbs 27:5‭-‬6 ESV

It hurts more finding out others did not want to hurt your feelings rather than spare you difficulty and pain by correcting you.

Nip sin in the bud. Confront it in love, with gentleness, and sooner rather than later.

It hurts less than consequences.

VerseD: Proverbs 10:17

Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray.
Proverbs 10:17, ESV

Obedience is more important to God than most anything. Rejecting His leadings and law is not only dangerous to you but compounded as you lead others to disobedience.

VerseD: Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7, ESV

Wisdom is learning from others.

True wisdom is learning that God has a perfect standard that no one can meet, but He made a way through His Son, and we take this knowledge and turn to Him.

VerseD: Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
Proverbs 9:10, ESV

We can learn much in life, the is no denying it. We can even make wise decisions.

But only by learning and knowing the truth of God can we be truly wise, for all truth and wisdom is found in and through Him.

VerseD: Proverbs 13:3

Be careful what you say and protect your life. A careless talker destroys himself.
Proverbs 13:3, GNT

We see evidence of this verse throughout our culture today. How many people have to apologize for a quick response that is insensitive, rude, or flat out wrong?

VerseD: Proverbs 21:21

Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.
Proverbs 21:21 ESV

Whoever says we do not need the Old Testament should remember that Jesus basically used this in the beatitudes: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, because they will be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6)

Consider the Ant – Proverbs 6:6-11

Proverbs 6:6-11 – English Standard Version (ESV)

Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
    officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.
How long will you lie there, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
11 and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.
