Wow. 11 years.

WordPress just let me know that I started blogging 11 years ago.

Whoa.

There some interesting insights, as well.

  • Of over 43,000 views, a third of those were just from the past 2 years!
  • Of the 2,400 posts, half of those were just from the past 3 years!
  • I have almost hit 500 blogging subscribers. At least a third of those were from this past year or so. (I remember being at 365 at the end of 2020!)
  • I lost some e-mail subscribers, but I know several were elderly who either passed away or deleted their accounts (my wife’s grandmother deleted hers this past year.)
  • I used to be the most prolific commenter on my blog, but then I got to digitally know SlimJim. He is not a spammer, but he can talk like one! (Love you, brother!)
  • Of my top commenters, Anthony has dropped down, but he is the only one I have met in person! (Love you, too, brother!)
  • Jesse Walker started blogging on here, and his stuff is also great! (Also love you, too, brother!)

Thinking about how my theology has solidified over the past 11 years, the number of people I have come to know and friends made through this online medium, and some of the stories of people deepening their faith or even coming to faith – whether through this blog, Proverbial Thought, or the blogs of friends I have contributed to – it is humbling.

(Half of my Christian walk has been spent blogging. Huh.)

Thanks to everyone who has joined me on this wild ride.

Thanks especially to our Lord and Savior.

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

A Simple Decade

Wow. 10 years saying hello to this world for Jesus.

Here is a brief update about how things have gone lately, from New Year’s Eve 2020.

Basically, God deserves all the glory.

But for all of you who regularly read my blog, especially some of you who have become friends – whether we have met in person or not – thank you for your faithfulness and encouragement.

May we continue to be blessed by our Lord, no matter how long He tarries, as we share in His Word together.

The Lord bless you and keep you in His love and grace.

Daniel

The End of 2020

As I will share briefly tomorrow, 2020 was certainly a year.

But it ends today. (Why are so many people shouting “Amen!”? ;p)

Yet, overall, it was pretty good in my little sphere.

I personally stepped back from most of social media. It seems most people could not handle civil discourse. I was blocked and unfriended by people for merely offering reasonable/simple thoughts. I had to block and unfriend a few people for crossing too many lines. (And all of those attend church, for what it’s worth. I did not have to block or unfriend any of my non-Christian friends.)

In terms of this blog, things went really well. Many new followers have come to the blog, for starters.

I could have said last year that it was the best year. In 2018 I began posting daily thoughts on a verse(s) of the day. 2018 saw the number of visits for the year hit about 2,000. I was stoked. Then, in 2019, the number of posts doubled, but the number of visits more than quintupled to more than 10,000!

If a few more people stop by today (December 31, 2020), a simple man of God will break 11,000 views with fewer overall posts! (But just a few fewer … like 20. Ha!) That is maintaining posting VerseD posts and sharing from several friends and a few other places.

So, thank you, dear readers, for helping this be a good year for the blog.

As I have said all along, regardless of the year that came or went, we should remember that God is in control. Nothing happens outside of His will or sight.

He does not condone everything that happens. He does not like everything that happens.

But God has it all under control. We are working toward the end of this world, so we should not be surprised by craziness, stupidity, sinfulness, or sadness. God warned us it would all come, for one reason or another, even if not specifically called out.

(But it does look a lot like 2020 brought us that much closer to His return than much of history has done! And, no, I am not setting any dates or saying that 2020 definitely set the stage for one End-Time scenario or another. Just that it became very clear His return is closer than ever this year. As His return is every year.)

Did anything good or even great happen to you this year? Has God blessed you in unexpected ways, or are you simply ready for this year to be gone?

In His Love,

Daniel

Re-Hello World!

It was three years ago today that this little blog was started!

Can you believe it! I mean, Really?!

A big thank you to all who have come along side me by following, commenting on, and sharing my blog. An extra thank you for those of you who have helped me write my blog and encouraged me in my writing, especially the great men (and a young woman!) at Proverbial Thought!

To see how it all started, you can go here, and for Proverbial Thought here and here (the second link being my first posting).

Praise God for my being so consistent, the relationships formed and strengthened, and for all that has come that glorifies His Name through this blog!
