This Sunday at Church: Being Grateful for other Members of other Local Churches

I spent about a year as a new Christian with the belief that my little church home was the best church that had everything figured out.

Today, I have friends across the theological spectrum, we have sent each other families who were looking for a better fit for their beliefs and gifting, and we regularly do events together and pray for each other.

The Body of Christ is better when we all get along!

(Yes. Watch out for the wolves in sheep’s clothing. But also remember Whitefield on Wesley: that he wouldn’t see Wesley in heaven because Wesleywould be closer to the throne.)

Daniel

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Being Grateful for other Members of other Local Churches. I think one’s local church is important. In fact this series on the Church for the last few years now have focused on that. Lately I have been thinking about how sinful we […]

I (Still) Love/Hate Religion.

On the holiday the USA celebrates freedom, how about a throwback to my first ever post on this blog 12.48 years ago (give or take). I took a look at the religion/relationship debate, and the implication is what our freedom in Christ means for us.

Daniel

That’s right. I love religion, and I hate religion. One of the first sayings (not the first, mind you) I learned as a young believer in Christ was “I hate religion” because “It’s a relationship!” Everyone knows that religion is a trap that constrains all who practice from truly knowing God! Everyone knows that religion […]

This Sunday at Church: Pray for the Persecuted Church’s Pastors’ library not be destroyed

I also know and know of pastors under persecution who cherish any books that help them pastor and preach better. It reminds me of the early Church, clinging to letters from the Apostles, including some we know have been lost over 2000 years. Many books even keep us centered and away from heresy, so let us loft up our persecuted brothers and their books!

Daniel

For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray for the Persecuted Church’s Pastors’ library not be destroyed. This might seem like a rather peculiar prayer requests afterall there’s also things more important than books like lives, free from persecution, etc. We have covered those things as part off our Sunday prayer posts over the […]

Church in Word-Starved Places

The title of this post is a play on a group called “Church in Hard Places.” This post isn’t about the group.  But the post is about being in a church where there’s not a lot of sound preaching. I love the Word of God.  It always hurt to see areas where there’s churches after […]

This Sunday at Church: If you are preaching and teaching, thank God for the opportunity

Today I am not preaching or teaching, though I regularly do one or the other. This is our first regular service, back to a single, combined service in over 2 years.

We finally have space for all of us!

Instead, I am helping in the tech “booth” with words, sound, and video, getting our volunteers up to speed.

I guess I am still teaching!

Daniel

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: If you are preaching and teaching, thank God for the opportunity. I’ll be preaching today at church. That led me to think of this point. I thank God for the opportunity to preach the Word of God to the congregation. I think […]

This Sunday at Church: Write down what you learn at church

I confess that I rarely take notes (anymore) in church. After over two decades of listening and learning, I have retained more and more.

Yet, whenever something stands out or a new understanding jumps at me, I definitely write it down, as well as who may have said it or pointed it out.

Daniel

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Write down what you learn at church.   I am surprised at how much I forget when I talk to people and don’t take notes.  Thinking about this I thought about how much we can miss if we do not take notes […]

This Sunday at Church: Pray for Someone in a difficult Marriage

For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray for Someone in a difficult Marriage. I have past posts on praying for different people in regards to the topic of marriage such as Pray for those who are engaged to be married, Pray for those who recently got married in your Church and even simply Talk to someone about what […]

What Kind of Follower Are You?

Follow the call of wisdom and head to Proverbial Thought! Jesus said to many people, “Follow me.” When He said it to Matthew (Matthew 9:9), we read that Matthew pulled out his smart phone, opened his Facebook app, found “Jesus of Nazareth”, and clicked “Add Friend”. Then he switched to the Twitter app, found @JesusofNazarethMessiah, […]

This Sunday at Church: Pray for your non-Christian Neighbors

Just last night, I was thinking about our neighbors whom I pray for. When they moved in, the husband/dad would get drunk and scream and threaten his family. Last night, though, I heard how a daughter (3) can soften a heart, as he spoke tenderly and even told her he wants to be a better man for her.

I have not heard yelling for a while.

Let us pray for the unsaved.

Daniel

This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Pray for your non-Christian Neighbors. This is to balance a previous Sunday post “Thank the Lord if you have Christian Neighbors.” If they don’t know Christ then we should be concern for their spiritual well being, and want them to be saved. […]

My Dad’s Health and asking for prayers

Let us pray for our brother’s family, and all those dealing with health concerns and their families.

Daniel

I try not to talk about my personal life on my blog but I thought I share this. I’ll be traveling to help things with my parents. My dad has been going through health issues. We don’t fully know everything going on.  In the middle of this is a lot of ministry. Pray that […]
