Weekend Words & Sunday Stanzas – 10/21/2012

[Your usual reminder to check out Proverbial Thought]

My wife and I had our first date at a church dedication ceremony, and we started our relationship by dedicating it to God. Good start, eh? (Yes.) We built our relationship for the next year and a half, and then we got married establishing a lifelong commitment. Now we are working on decorations and reinforcing our foundation and walls.

That is not the point, though. The real point is that God sets things apart in eternity, then builds and establishes them in their proper time.

Including us. This poem talks about me, but it is about each and every person who comes to God in faith.

established date

thought of in eternity past
loved and thought of through all time
held in His arms until
the moment had become right
now created and moving
but merely existing
the big change to come
true life yet to begin
finally years after construction
the Truth gets inside
the real change beginning
to make things right
while it has taken time
to get from what was made
when Christ enters in
that is the established date

Life is not always easy. In fact, for Christians at least, we are promised problems (John 16:33). We should accept that blessing, even when it is hard and a struggle to get through. (This also qualifies as a “stupid prayer”.)

the only way to move

i want to go where You want me
i want to be where You send me
help me get there quickly
keep me struggling through things
so that i always seek You
it is the only way to move

After looking at the Core Facts and Core Values, as well as The Core Mission, it is fitting to have a poem about answering the call to follow God!

here i am/send me

the call has been made
the choice has now come
how to answer the call
go out or stay at home
the choice can be no
to stay safe but not free
when i answer please let me say
Here am I! Send me!

I think a young woman from the camp I worked in five years ago put it perfectly:

“Live a weak life!”

—Cheyenne (camper at Junior Camp, UCYC, June 29, 2007)

We must live a weak life.

We can try to use our strength,

But we can only get so far.

So, if we live weakly,

God can move through us.

When we are weak,

He is stronger in us.

Live a weak life,

and God will use you.

While it is not always pleasant to think about, one of the biggest ways God grows a consecrated heart in us is through trial and pain.

towards hope

You allow suffering to come
they are sent so we become
a people that will persevere
even if these last for years
with Your strength to get us there
it builds up our character
as we become a people for You
we get a hope that is true
it encourages us to the inmost parts
as You pour Your love into our hearts
as towards hope we continue on
it is because You sent Christ Your Son
He came when we were powerless
at the right time in our distress
because You sought our hearts You missed
Your love was demonstrated in this
while we still lived lives of sin
Christ died to bring our hearts to Him
because He persevered to death
yet He rose up to life again
let us persevere through struggles
towards hope that is eternal

Seeking God includes talking with Him. It is not enough to just talk and ask and command. We must listen. However, when we ask for the correct things, we will also see our hearts and lives change.

how can i know Your will
if i do not ask for knowledge

how can i express Your love
if i do not seek it out first

how can i teach Your Word
if i do not study Him

how can i live my life
if i do not start living for You

how can i live for You
if i do not accept Your Son

The last line of the poem today actually states the topic for this past week, and the whole poem fairly well describes certain seasons within the life of one desperately pursuing God.

We may fail at times, but we must learn from those failures and trust God. We can not go back to who we were and start over. We must renew our commitment in our hearts and minds, pressing onward and digging deeper!

moving forward

sometimes i stumble
other times i fall
i could go back to where
i started this walk
but then i would go over
what i have already learned
instead i will continue
i will move on from here
i have what has happened
now i must move forward
letting go of lessons learned
makes absolutely no sense
so i press on towards the goal
leaving mistakes behind
but not forgetting so that
when they arise again
i know how to avoid them
going back is not an option
not for me anymore
all that is left is to finish
move on from where i am
and complete this race
the race of life and love
and the pursuit of God

First of all, my usual friendly reminder to go check out the words of wisdom at Proverbial Thought.

The poem this week is fitting, because as I go through the Four Core Facts and Four Core Values for the youth group I help lead I hope that the words I share make an impact on your life. I pray you come to know Christ intimately and learn to follow His ways and fall madly and passionately in love with Him. May I make an impact in your life for His glory as He has made an impact in my life through others and His great love.

impact

may my words leave you well
may my actions leave an example
may my love leave an impression
may my life leave an impact
for the Word made me well
for His actions made me an example
for His love made an impression
for His life made the ultimate impact

Do not forget us over at Proverbial Thought! These daily devotionals could very well change your life!

When the Disciples were assured of the Life of the Risen Lord, they were so radically changed. They suddenly loved people whom they may not have ever given a second thought about before Jesus came on the scene. They could not help but love others, because they knew how much God loves them.

I love them

This love compels me.

It moves me completely.

I look on those lost,

And my heart breaks.

When someone is hurt,

My heart hurts, too.

When my brother mourns,

My heart mourns.

When my sister is moved,

My heart is moved.

Lord, this love is too much for me,

But I know it is Yours.

Send more.

Help me love my brother.

Help me love my sister.

Let my heart break,

mourn,

move,

hurt,

love for them all.

Break me for them all.

You love me…

I love them.

Thank You, God.

More.

Thank You For

  Your Love,

     God.

   Amen.

I offer another friendly reminder to read the wisdom coming out of Proverbs over at Proverbial Thought.

Something great to understand is that even Jesus’ closest friends deserted Him at the crucifixion, yet Jesus never leaves nor abandons us. He is our greatest Friend, but we must never forget that He is also our Lord and Savior.

old friends

when it comes to relationships
Christ wants the best we can give
He wants to know us deeply
and talk with us frequently
this friendship He wants to have with us
involves the greatest of all trust
He desires the same Love He sends
He wants to treat us like old friends
an old friend is one that is always there
someone who thinks of you and really cares
someone who knows what you will say
someone who thinks of you everyday
Jesus is that kind of friend
He will be there through the end
His friendship is the best you will see
He loves us unconditionally
