“And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work [is] great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. In what place [therefore] ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.” – Nehemiah 4:19-20
The children of Israel were trying to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, yet they had to be spread out because of the size of the work. And since there were but few of them, and the threats from the enemy was ever-present, they worked with one hand, kept a sword in the other, and listened for the sound of a trumpet.
Nehemiah saw that their few numbers, if attacked in one spot, could be overrun. However, if when one group working on one section of the wall would sound a trumpet…

I really like the perspective offered through this story. Head on over to Trevor’s blog. Not just for this story, but for so many other great thoughts God uses this man to show the world.

Yeah. I like this: the song and the message. Thanks, Chris!
When fatherhood is done right.
As I watched, my heart broke, my eyes flooded with tears, and I nearly had to leave the theater – that’s how I felt when I watched a particular scene in the movie Do You Believe?.
Credit: Still from “Do You Believe?” Movie
Alex PenaVega (of Spy Kids fame) played the role of a young woman named Lacey. Early in the movie she is shown sitting on a couch, on her cell phone, begging her father to either come to visit her, or let her spend some time with him (as I type this my eyes are beginning to water).
Totally desperate for his attention and affection, through barely contained sobbing, she cries out to her daddy, “pleeeease!”
Now I’m crying. Seriously. Read on and you’ll understand why.
Not long ago, Katie (my middle daughter) called me up in the middle of the night…then…

Anthony has had many good thoughts lately (I think he has been listening a little better to God!), hence my sharing more of his thoughts.l
I like this one for a couple reasons: 1) This is the reason Christians should NOT be racists, and 2) we can disagree with people, but this is the reason we should not hate them, seek revenge against them, nor insult them – at least not maliciously and/or consciously.
By this last statement I mean that by simply presenting the Gospel we can insult people (see 1 Corinthians 1:20-25). Sometimes the truth hurts, and people will feel insulted, offended by the truth. It is also possible that something we say will offend someone due to their own past or misconceptions that cloud their understanding. (I know it has happened to me too many times to count, both ways.)
Do you think of other people as valuable? How valuable? Would you consider them priceless?
Just imagine, what if you could say you held in your hand a small item, a one-of-a-kind, totally unique, and personally made by God Himself? How would you treat it?
Would you hold it carefully, caress it, watch over it?
Would you toss it in the trash, make fun of it, or abuse it?
Are we not unique? Are we not “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God? Are we not valuable beyond compare? Did God not offer His own Son as a ransom for our souls?
Then why do we treat each other the way we do?
Right on, here.
Let me sum it up for everyone: All people are valuable. God made each one!
Thanks, Anthony, for the reminder!
Good Monday afternoon to those of you here on the east coast of the U.S. I hope you are enjoying the weather wherever you are, though.
I am writing a quick post before I head off to drive my afternoon routes on the school bus (I wrote a book about that – hint hint).
Value. What makes you valuable? What makes your life worth living?
There is a teenage boy one of my daughters has been talking to. All he seems to want to discuss is how worthless he is because a couple of other girls don’t “love” him. Ever known a teenager like that? I might have even been one…ewww.
Here’s the thing, though: being loved doesn’t make you more or less valuable.
Now, I know that there are some of you who would say, “Anthony! You’re wrong! What makes us valuable IS the fact that we are loved…
