This Sunday at Church: Being grateful for other Christians in the Universal church

I know I have been hurt by people in churches, yet it is also a reason why I know I am in Christ – because my desire has been to make those in the Church better by the power of God. It has been finding faithful brothers and sisters that has given me those boosts in hard times, beyond and in fulfillment of the promises of God in His Word.

This Sunday at Church: Pray for a struggling church near you

Our church sent one of our pastors to a small struggling church four years ago this month. What started as a church with 3-10 weekly attenders in an area with many ex-cons and struggling individuals, a food bank that fed a few dozen each week, has now become a church with several dozen weekly attenders feeding several dozen more at the food bank.

But Pastor Paul is beginning to feel his own years creeping up on him. This small country church needs a new shepherd, so our prayer has shifted slightly.

Let us lift up all such churches and those with other issues that need resolving.

This Sunday at Church: Give an Evangelistic Pamphlet to someone

Our little church keeps several pamphlets on our welcome table (we need to get some more!) Every several weeks, I have someone ask me questions about some of the points these bring up, even from regular attenders. While these pamphlets are not really “my thing” personally, I still appreciate the value they bring to helping connect people to truth.

This Sunday at Church: Praise God there’s no political violence days after 2024 US Presidential Election

I have heard of people who feel threatened and unsafe since the election (including some college students I know), but also since the election I have not heard of actual violence. There are reports of racist texts being sent out, and that is simply wrong, but I don’t know too much about it.

Let us pray that things and people stay calm and willing to be reasonable.

This Sunday at Church: Consider whom you might invite to Thanksgiving Dinner from Church

Our church is having a “Friendsgiving Dinner” after our main service and baptisms the Sunday before Thanksgiving. If anyone wants to come, reach out to The Church Next Door (AZ)!

As for my wife and me, we are all over the state on Thanksgiving Day, barely at home at all.

For those at home, having the retirees or empty-nesters without local family come over could be encouraging. Maybe the new people in town or widow(er)s need some extra joy and fellowship. I remember being a transplant to another state and suddenly homeless and getting invites to homes (not so much from the church I was mostly attending, though …)

It can be a big impact on someone, including for the gospel and Church of our Lord.
